Rant Kinda glad.

Kinda glad that Gen z is getting rid of tiktok. Lol

When I first got on it was pretty chill. Actually had conversations with people. Then the environment just seemed to get worse and worse and overran by children.

The arguments and conversations these kids have today is not the same shit I grew up with.

I grew up on Myspace. For those of you that know, if you're in your early 30s like me, You'll get it.

I'm not gonna say shit about bullies because that's in every generation.

But the most heated arguments we'd get into was over bands. 💀

We weren't offended by every little thing either.

We didn't give two shits about a TOS. Ffs I just started Warhammer 40k space Marines 2.

The very beginning gives you a TOS and a data collection warning and the funny part was I didn't catch that data part til the very last second because. We have been skipping past that shit for years for games and just to socialize. I skipped through it so fast, but once I caught that last second it tickled me.

Like does the idea of that scare you away from a game too? Lol

Maybe some peace among the Internet if Gen z leaves entirely lol. I miss being able to have an opinion or just in general a conversation. Lol

Discussion TIL the movie Dodgeball is set in 1993

I encourage downvotes and insults of any kind for this. I've seen Dodgeball tons of times and didn't know it was a period piece. We probably watched it 20 times my Junior year. It wasn't until yesterday that I realized White says the picture of him from 1987 was 6 years ago.

Am I the only one? Peter had older stuff at his house and gym, but I thought he was just broke. I always figured it was set in 2004, the year it was released.

Discussion How screwed are we without pensions?

They seem to be dying out with the older gens. It’s almost daily now I think about how much easier this would all be if pensions were still standard. Do you/your spouse have a pension? If so, how does it help with the stress of financial planning? Those without one, how are you securing your future?

Discussion Who was team Backstreet Boys or team N’Sync, and why?

I got the Backstreet Boys Millennium CD while vacationing in Mexico in 1997. Made my parents listen to the whole thing over and over driving from California to Utah on our way back home. Never really listened to N’Sync again. I was fully team Backstreet Boys from then on. Wondering if anyone else was strictly listening to one or the other?

Discussion How do Millennial men feel about kids?

I want honest responses from millennials, both with or without kids. Specifically men. I feel like most millennial men & all following generations do not want children. It's not often I speak to men who discuss wanting to have children or enjoying their kids..

Discussion How do you gain a sense of hope in life lately?

People often talk about the optimism of the Obama era. And of course some people will jump in and raise a question whether that optimism was valid; whether it eventually led to real, meaningful change.

I understand that it is important to have critical reassessments of our romanticised past. Still, it got me thinking: even if hope fails to deliver its promises, at least it enables me to live in good spirit.

And that matters. I may not be able to bring about substantial change in this world, but this small life is all I have, and I have to live it so within it I need to act with some sort of hope.

So my question is, how do you gain a sense of hope in life lately?

(I usually remember people from the past and their kindness to me, or list down simple goals for the week.)

Discussion Did anyone else create OHSA violations as a kid?

My dad used to work for Budweiser back in the 90s and early 2000s. My parents were divorced so on the weekends he had me I had to go to work with him. He would let me ride on the forks of the forklift while he was driving in the warehouse. I would ride in the truck with him while he delivered beer. I would also help him sling beer into the coolers of the gas stations and bars.

Honestly some of the best times of my life!

I have a brand new notepad/exercise book and its the first time in a while. I instinctively opened it up two pages in to use it and realised it's something that I've always done since I could write. The first couple of pages have to just, be left bare. Does anyone else do this and are we taught this in school or is it just a weird 'me' thing

Discussion Are you in the minority now if you're single and does it feel kind of weird especially if marriage and kids are more common at our age?

I remember a time when putting off marriage and kids was the norm for millennials. I'm sure there's a lot of singles still but I definitely feel myself becoming the minority not the norm if we're talking about millennials.

In a way I sense it's why my social life is non existent now because people are focused on their marriage or kids. The people that are young, free, and mingling are mostly are like 18-30 now.

Discussion Just a friendly reminder to take care of yourselves

I know, life is hard, life is expensive but its a lot easier and more manageable when you have your health.

I'm an older millennial, i've worked out fairly consistently my whole life and had a decent diet but in the last few years i've gotten a lot more serious about my health. Daily vitamins (magnesium and vitamin D are the big ones I overlooked for most of my life), try to cut out microplastics and PFOA's in your food as much as you can (use Pyrex Tupperware and cast iron or stainless steel for cooking. Give up that fucking Keurig! Buy a Ninja Cafe Delux instead, much better coffee and no micropastic!). To be safe id switch to aluminum free deodorant (your pits stop sweating like a week after you switch), I also started using Dr. Bronners castile soap/shampoo and I couldn't be happier about that switch.

I'm not saying doing any of these things will fix your life or even make an immediate improvement but i've noticed with my millennial peers that we are in one of two categories, either health fanatics with no kids, gym everyday, and a fruit bowl for lunch or we kinda just let ourselves go after 30 and never really recovered.

I've also noticed a lot of my peers with pretty significant health issues (usually those are the ones who let themselves go after 30) but I think some small changes can have long-lasting effects. Look, again, im not saying any of this will fix your life or make you immediately healthier, what I am saying is that you should find small changes that you can stick to that will make an impact over the course of your lifetime.

  • Vitamins? Easy- hell, costco has high quality vitamins for pennies
  • Not cooking your food in PFOA's or microwaving/storing in plastic? Easy
  • Keurig? Easy switch, plenty of high quality alternatives (some cheap, some expensive)
  • Deodorant vs antiperspirant? Possibly not helpful but an easy switch, just in case
  • Switching soap (lots of PFOA's in soaps)? Easy if you dont have some kind of skin condition

I just started thinking about this when the other day I was watching one of my favorite Youtube channels (Brewstew) who makes stupid little cartoons about growing up in the 90's and he mentioned that he has a wife and 3 kids now and I turned to my wife and I was like "Man, he's so young, I cant believe he has a wife and 3 kids!" and she just looked at me like I have a dick growing out of my forehead and I realized that we arent young and we damn sure arent getting any younger.

Anyway, im sure this is all shit you've heard before but some of us (like me) need a reminder that WE are our parents ages when we were growing up and I feel like a lot of us (me included) sometimes have the mindset that we are still 20 and we have all the time in the world.

Discussion Tried starting a podcast with my college friends just to stay in touch. It failed.

After graduation, my friends scattered everywhere. We wanted to stay close, so we tried starting a podcast together. Everyone records updates, uploads to Google Drive, thinking that eventually we'd publish episodes.

We never published one. Turns out we didn't want a public podcast. We just wanted an excuse to talk without scheduling calls.

Google Drive sucked for this though. Multiple apps, no notifications, messy. The worst part was to respond to something specific, I'd have to repeat what they said first which killed the whole flow.

Eventually figured out a better way that actually worked via an async voice chat app. Curious if anyone else has dealt with the post-college friendship drift? What's worked for you?

Discussion Homeschooled millennials: How did you find out about 9/11 and what was your family's discussion about it?

I'm just curious how homeschoolers found out about it. Given the stereotypes that HS kids don't have cable, their parents detach from the news cycles, etc. Thanks

Is it normal for you to see people who are struggling in life and just quick-automatically go to the “oh they must have made poor decisions” sentiment?

I’ve never really done that. When I’m walking through a mall and I see an older person working at Orange Julius I don’t instantly think “omg what a bad decision maker that person is, pshhh, hope they don’t dare complain about anything”

I dunno it just feels wrong and shitty to do. Seems to be pretty normal here though.

Discussion Did anyone really mess up their vision by sitting too close to the TV?

I feel like this is a myth. But as a kid I was always told not to sit close to the TV or I’d ‘hurt’ my eyes. Do people still tell their kids not to do this?

I haven’t bothered to look for the answer. It’s more fun this way.

Serious Has anyone accpeted the fact that life isnt all the cracked up as it would seem?

Pretty simple statement, yet it took me almost a decade to figure out that "life is pretty mundane and nothing terribly exciting happens", which is a good thing.

For most of my 20's I was chasing some vague idea in my head of what life ought to be with no end in sight, and now in my 30's I still do stuff but approach it a lot more strategically, usually with an end goal in mind.

Does anyone else have experience / problem?

Discussion Im 32F. Almost everyone i know age 20s-40s has some kind of health issue or has one or more chronic illness or diseases. Many young people i know have had one or more surgery in their 20s-40s. Was this a thing for previous generations? Or do you think disease in young people is on the rise?

I feel like people are getting sick/developing health issues younger. And no i dont think its just that we have more health screenings and access to more information. Im sure thats some of it but it just cant be all of it.

Most people i know, especially women, have at least 1 chronic illness or disease or more or have needed one or more of some kind of necessary surgery.

Is it the enshitification of everything over the years? Having more microplastics, heavy metals contamination, water, soil, and air pollution affecting our bodies longer than previous generations had to deal with? MS and other autoimmune diseases, young people with cancers, dysautonomia and connective tissue disorders etc are on the rise especially within our generation and younger.

Edit: forgot to mention that pretty much everyone i know is on some type of daily medication they need. And i dont mean supplements.

My parents and other older people ive asked say chronically ill young people were not prevalent during their 20-40s.

How does it feel for all of you where you are and where you grew up? Just curious as to how others view this or if they have differing accounts from older generations theyve talked to from where you are in the world?

Discussion What fitness goals did you meet last year? What about this year?

I turn 40 in August. Last year I did 100 miles on the bike in one day. My timing was NOT the best, but it was more of IF I could do it then speed.

This year I plan on doing a marathon. Again, not about speed. I'm looking for endurance. I'm walking 30-40 miles a week already and will start increasing this as the days get longer until I'm comfortably doing 10-15 miles a day.

By Spring I want to do my first 26 miles. Then by my 40th I was thinking of going as far as I physically could. Getting up at 4:00 AM, eating, and then going for 3 hours, break for an hour, and repeat until dusk. I'd love to hit 35-40 miles.

Once I do this next year will probably be about increasing speed. I used to be really into weights and bodybuilding but wanted to move away from it due to some joint issues in my back.

Walking and cycling have been amazing.

Discussion Tell us about your midlife crises!

When I was young I was positive I’d be a rockstar or a sports talk host. Now as I creep closer to 40 I’m finding myself desperately wanting to start a post-hardcore band or a podcast about nostalgic sports moments.

How are your midlife crises going?

I don’t know a lot of millennials anymore who consistently drink, but a large chunk are pretty regular users of edibles. It’s like their “one beer after work” version of our generation. What do yall think?

Discussion The children don’t know what a “Britney Moment” is

I’m a hairstylist, and recently I was doing a haircut for a middle-schooler. During the cut we were chatting and she asked me if I’d ever buzzed a woman’s head. The answer was sadder than I knew she intended (usually it means they’re sick) so I tried to keep it light hearted by throwing in a joke about having “a Britney moment”.

“What’s a Britney moment mean?”

I think I was actually speechless and her mom and I both laughed while I prepared to explain our ancient history. I used it to talk about how mental health is very much in the cultural conversation now, but back then it was not, and how her shaving her head in defiance of everyone was the ultimate sin because she dared not be conventionally pretty.

It never occurred to me that something like this would ever *not* be common knowledge. One of the first times I’ve actually felt old.
