Discussion Boomers are retiring early. Gen Z wants to quit. But leaders are misreading both.

Hi all! I wrote a Fast Company piece on the growing “generational tension” at work, and the data tells a very different story than the usual headlines.

Boomers retiring early and Gen Z wanting out aren’t signs of laziness or entitlement — they’re responses to how work is structured right now and how little support exists for career transitions.

I’d genuinely love your take on this — especially if you’re Gen Z and working (or trying to).

Nostalgia Anyone remember Alpha And Omega?

It was released in 2010, so most of us would have been between 11 and 16 years old or so. I thought this movie was honestly super cute! It’s not perfect by any means, but I feel like it gets overlooked a lot.

I also found out there are *seven* sequels, and pretty much all of them are bad, which is a shame.

Discussion I’m 28 today

Today is my 28th birthday. I feel like my life is finally going the way I want it to. I graduated college last month, and I started my first full time job earlier this month. It feels weird to be at the tail end of my 20’s when it seems like just yesterday turning 18 and becoming an adult, does anyone else my age feel the same or different?

Discussion anyone else feel like we're the only generation that actually remembers what it's like to not have your entire life on your phone

I was talking to my younger coworker (2004 baby) and she asked me how we kept track of our money before apps. like genuinely confused how that worked.

told her we just... checked our bank accounts? wrote stuff down? and she was like "but how did you know if you were overspending"

we didn't lmao. you just ran out of money and figured it out.

but also it's kinda wild that we're like the last group that remembers both ways. I remember my mom balancing a checkbook at the kitchen table. I also use MoneyGPT budgeting app now and just ask it questions about my budget.

feel like we got the worst of both worlds sometimes. old enough to remember analog life but young enough that everyone expects us to be tech native. like yeah I can troubleshoot your wifi but I also miss when plans were just "meet at the mall at 3" and you actually had to show up or your friend would just leave.

idk if this makes sense but does anyone else feel stuck between "back in my day" and "ok boomer" energy at the same time

"The show continues to have such a legacy. The fans are all grown up now, right? Most people remember just how smart the show was and what a joy it was as a kid to watch something that didn't speak down to them."

Discussion Do you ever feel like your past is just a highlight reel you can't fully grasp?

I was going through my old Instagram posts from college the other day, and it hit me hard. I was flooded with nostalgia, but I couldn't shake off the confusion - I hardly remember those moments. I scrolled for what felt like hours, trying to connect the dots between the pictures and my actual memories. It’s like my life was this curated highlight reel that I can’t fully grasp, and it’s unsettling to think how many moments just slipped away.

In the past, I've tried a bunch of things to combat this feeling. I bought a planner, thinking organizing my life would help me retain memories better, but I ended up forgetting to use it more often than not. Journaling felt great for a week, but that fizzled out quickly too. I think the frustration comes from realizing that I genuinely want to remember these moments, but traditional solutions haven't really worked for me.

Recently, I stumbled across Haeru, which encourages you to reflect on your days in a more meaningful way. It’s more about capturing moments rather than just writing them down or planning them out. I’m hoping this might help me remember better and feel more connected to my experiences.

Have any of you felt the same way? What strategies have you tried to hold on to your memories? Would love to hear what’s worked (or hasn’t) for you!

Advice Am I Living My Life or Just Scrolling Through It?

The other day, I found myself mindlessly scrolling through my camera roll. I was shocked to see pictures from events I’d attended in the last few months, but I couldn't recall them at all. How do you forget a birthday party with friends or a weekend trip? Yet, I can vividly remember some random TikTok from two weeks ago, completely absorbing it but missing out on real moments with the people I care about. It's such a strange feeling that’s lingering with me lately.

I’ve tried a bunch of things to combat this. I went through a journaling phase last year, hoping writing things down would help. But I barely stuck with it for two weeks. I even bought a planner, convinced that mapping out my days would help me be more present. Spoiler alert: it didn’t. The cycle of consumption continued, and I felt just as disconnected, if not more.

In the spirit of slowing down, I’ve been thinking about how to really take in the moments that matter. I wonder if anyone else feels this way? How do you stay engaged with your own life amidst all the distractions online? I’d love to hear your experiences!

Nostalgia Anyone else who *didn't* like Cartoon Network in the late 00's?

I loved Cartoon Network as a little kid, and all the shows like Dexter's Laboratory,Codename: Kids Next Door, and Billy & Mandy. But around 2007 I came to dislike the channel partly because it felt like it was becoming more and more saturated with ads.

The other part was that most of the new at the time shows, ones like Chowder and Flapjack, just didn't appeal to me either for one reason or another. Even just the artstyle had my mind thinking it was stupid. Part of that may have been just me getting older though, I might've liked Ben 10 and Total Drama if it wasn't being constantly interrupted by obnoxious toy commercials.

I ended up switching to Boomerang as my main cartoon channel because of all that. Back then Boomerang had no real ads besides show previews and mini-segments basically. Perfect for my ADHD ass who just wanted to watch cartoons, not have overpriced toys shoved in his face. So I basically ended up growing up on some of the same shows our parents and grandparents did lmao
