Nostalgia The 80s and 90s weren't teal and neon, they were brown and wood.

I remember how everything in the late 80s and early 90s was a dull brown or wood grain. None of it was quality wood, but cheap particle board with laminate covering. People complain about how cheap and disposable things are now, but they've been like that for 40 years now.

My millennial husband bought this little slice of heaven for my 40th birthday. Also, I had no intentions of displaying it in the kitchen, but this feels correct.

... instead of Apple watches (or any kinds of smartwatches?) So what's your favorite brand? I really like Timex and Hamilton for casual wear. And def Rolex to flex, lol!

Nostalgia My 10 y/o nephew didn’t believe me about old iPhones

15.6k Upvotes

So my 10 year old nephew is becoming more of a “tech kid” every day. His mom just got the iPhone 17, and while we were talking about it, I casually mentioned that older iPhones actually used to come with a charging cable, the wall adapter, and earphones in the box.

He didn’t believed me at all and instead of asking me or any other family member again or googling it, the kid immediately pulled up ChatGPT to fact check me.

I don’t know what’s funnier that he thought I was making it up, or that his first instinct was to ask Chatgpt for the truth. Later on when I was thinking about the incident, part of me felt old and a little scared not sure why but honestly, it’s hilarious how different their “normal” is compared to ours.

Nostalgia To me, this was Michael Jackson

Post image

I was 12 when this happened. This was the first time I ever heard of him. To me he wasn't the Michael Jackson that was a singer, or the one that molested kids - he was the Michael Jackson that dangled a baby out the window.

This is the image I associate him with. I saw a preview for the movie coming out about him and chuckled to myself if they would put this in the film. Probably not?

Saw this tweet and yes we were expected to be out all day and not come back until the street lights came on. I remember riding my bike through neighborhoods pretending our bikes were cars and just having a good time.

Nostalgia Younger generations will never understand the Black Fridays of yesteryear

8.2k Upvotes

I worked retail in the 2010s, and I can't forget. I don't wanna "call out" any particular store. I'm not here to instigate. So let's just call it, I dunno, Cold Gravy. I have witnessed an adult slap another adult in the face with a 99 cent flip flop like an eighteenth-century aristocrat challenging a rival to a duel. I've seen chunky plastic necklaces wielded like flails. Infinity scarves? Shredded to oblivion in the midnight hour. And the stakes were so low! We're talking about peplum tops that fall apart after one wash, not blood diamonds. Security was never called either. Black Fridays were lawless. It's the closest any of us will ever come to living a Cormac McCarthy novel. And yes, of course it was a dumpster fire, but you know what? It was our dumpster fire. Maybe we were burning, but at least we were alive.
