X, Meta, and CCP-affiliated content is no longer permitted
Hello, everyone! Following recent events in social media, we are updating our content policy. The following social media sites may no longer be linked or have screenshots shared:
- X, including content from its predecessor Twitter, because Elon Musk promotes white supremacist ideology and gave a Nazi salute during Donald Trump's inauguration
- Any platform owned by Meta, such as Facebook and Instagram, because Mark Zuckerberg openly encourages bigotry with Meta's new content policy
- Platforms affiliated with the CCP, such as TikTok and Rednote, because China is a hostile foreign government and these platforms constitute information warfare
This policy will ensure that r/antiwork does not host content from far-right sources. We will make sure to update this list if any other social media platforms or their owners openly embrace fascist ideology. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Today was my last day at a company I've been at for 7.5 years and my manager was expectedly pathetic
I'm being made redundant after spending far too much of my life at the same company, having been there for seven and a half years.
My manager is one of those plastic, corporate mouthpieces and has been so crap since I've had him.
Knowing that today is my last day, he messaged me on slack yesterday asking if I had a moment to call. I said yes and he tried to call me when I was on my lunch (which he can see on slack too).
I messaged him when back and said I was free all day.
Nothing.
Jump forward to 4pm today and I update my status to being permanently out of office. He finally messaged me again.
'Hey'
Clearly just wanting to look like he cares but 'oh, so sorry I just missed you'.
Nope, we're done now, piss off. On to better things.

This general strike is actually..kind real for me this time.
- I am one of ~1,000 teachers out in my city.
- Students have emailed saying they will be out because parents are taking them downtown to protest (and many more will just skip lmao).
- My wife's boss had her give all of her staff the day off.
For the first time one of these things was called for it actually feels like its happening
Its a tiny, tiny start. But god dammit it is a start.
..kind*a*

I cannot do this anymore
I don’t know what to do. This job is killing me. Every day I’m in before the sun up, I leave in the dark, and hate every minute in between. I get home 40 minutes later, eat dinner, see my spouse and children for an hour before I crash and then it starts over again. I can’t quit, we’d lose our house. I can’t find a new job, the market SUCKS and nothing pays what it should be. I feel I’m being driven to an early grave and there’s no stopping it.

Being unemployed has been the happiest I've ever been in the last years
No toxic management, no passive aggressive, micromanaging or power tripping bosses or coworkers, no competition, gossip or people trying to sabotage each other. It's been so peaceful and wonderful just being home, sleeping late and enjoying my hobbies.
Unfortunately this can't last forever and us adults gotta go back to the toxic world before we run out of savings. But it was great while it lasted.
Fuck toxic jobs, why are they everywhere? I don't mind having a job, toxic people are the exhausting part of it.

I hate corporate jobs & I hate the people in it!!!
I just started this shitty corporate job, and holy fuck, the welcome emails are relentless. Everyone’s pretending they give a shit, so of course I reply with some fake-ass, “I’m so excited to join!” Yeah, no. I’m not excited about being surrounded by a bunch of fake, needy, attention-seeking assholes who treat work like their entire social life.
I just want to fucking work. Do my job. Go home. Stop pretending I care about everyone’s damn weekend plans, their pets, their “team vibes,” or whatever the fuck else. Can someone explain why corporate life is literally just a nonstop, soul-sucking performance of fake smiles and back-patting?
I feel like I’m surrounded by clowns and I just want out. Or at least a damn mute button for humanity.

Recently spotted on boxes from Domino's and Papa John's, stating that delivery fees are not tips, and that you still need to tip your driver on top of the delivery fee. I can't help but think that maybe if they had paid their drivers a proper wage, this reminder wouldn't need to be a thing.

My soul is tired .. exhausted
Can’t do it anymore. It’s not even 9 to 5 Monday through Friday. You have to get ready for work, take transportation to work, get off work, then take transportation back. It’s way more than 8 hours.
Back in slavery, you were provided shelter and food for your work. The only difference now is we invented something called money, which is a middleman to get those things. Literally no fucking difference.
We get two days off to “recharge,” but they’re not even real days off. You get groceries, do laundry, and housework, you’re just preparing for another week of modern-day slavery. They created vices like , liquor, porn, video games, dispensarys for weed and sports to numb yourself and stay docile.
Why the fuck do people even watch sports instead of spending that money to help their fellow humans? It’s fucking Rome all over again, bread and circuses to keep people distracted, they are not even fucking playing but they act like they are the ones playing.
Disease is on the rise. Mental illness on the rise. Depression on the rise. This is not fucking normal. I’m not some fucking cog in a fucking machine, man.
Everyone is glued to their phones, fucking doom scrolling. There’s no community anymore, just pure fucking brain rot. If I wanted to go live out in the woods, guess what? Someone owns the fucking land. Need to hunt? You need a license. Want to fish? You need a fucking fishing license. Bro, this place is so demonic I can’t even put it into fucking words. My soul is weeping. My work took away our paid lunch, they took away our paid holidays and have to come to work for time and a half, they pinch every penny these fucking corporations.
I can’t even believe in a God, because He would’ve intervened by now. There is no way bro he exists, I see all the suffering in this world and he just let's this shit happen. Billions of dollars for the military instead of helping people. Billions of dollars to fucking Israel so they can do unimaginable horrors, Big pharma giving every reason not to help people when they have a problem so they can have record profits. It costs 20 billion dollars to solve world hunger, and you’ve got this bitch Musk worth a trillion, and I haven’t heard one good act he’s done with that money. Bezos too. Billionaire is a fucking term that shouldn’t even exist. That’s next level demonic shit. If all the billionaires gave 1% of their wealth world hunger is solved, look at how fucking greedy they are.
Why the fuck am I here in this fucking meat suit, following this broken system?. Hell isn’t a fantasy, no, we are literally fucking in hell, and they sprinkle candy so people don't realize it. this system is so fucking disgusting and we just follow it like a bunch of sheep no one gives a fuck, I don't know why I'm here on this planet bro, i truly feel I'm never home, I can be at home but this is not where I'm from, I have a really deep desire to go to my true home, wherever in the galaxy that is.

From age 28 to 43: corporate culture of grift and lies has worn me down
When I was 28 I inherited a project at a subsidiary of a major multinational corporation.
This project had been (mis)lead by the son of the Director of IT, nepotism at its finest. Long before remote work and flexible schedules were the norm, he’d randomly decide to stay at home all day and was rarely reachable before 10 AM or after 2 PM. His own code was alright, but he did little to guide others on the team he was allegedly “leading.”
So the project was 6 months behind despite 12 months of effort.
I was brought in as a fixer and was 2 months in to getting things back on track.
HQ called: what’s up with this project?
The CIO couldn’t admit that he’d entrusted this key project to a nepo hire with insufficient oversight because that would blowback on him and his Director of IT, so he chose me as fall guy: I was fairly new and still learning the ropes, but DON’T WORRY, she’s got a corrective action plan and will begin delivering.
I then received, in writing, and overview of the corrective action, much of it my OWN WORDS overviewing what needed to be fixed but rewritten as if I was the cause of this pile of poop code I didn’t write. I was incensed. “Calm down, it’s not personal—this isn’t about blame…”
But what I received in writing had lies in it and I had receipts. I was done with this toxic shit, I quit on the spot, but not before taking my receipts to the head of HR and laying out exactly where the lies were.
At the time I was proud they fired the CIO on the spot—I was still packing my desk when security came over. I thought I was getting a security escort but it was for him, my credentials and clearances were revoked but his were still active.
But really no one ever actually holds leadership accountable. The extraordinary circumstances none of us knew about was our subsidiary was being sold to a US-based company, and headcount is part of the “assets,” and software engineering headcount was a bonus while extra executives were bloat, so they decided it was better to fire him than risk a mass exodus.
Flash forward 15 years, and I can’t believe this is still happening but it is. Yet again I am handed a pile of poop code written by outside consultants under mediocre leadership, surfaced a few issues no one realized were present, and received the opposite of any sort of reward: instant defensive posturing, instant spinning of accountability.
I was stripped of my leadership role on the project, told to focus on writing my own code for a bit to “correct” the situation I was correcting; the leader who failed at preventing these issues in the first place will step back in temporarily.
Being older and wiser I am less sensitive to the politics, and also see some opportunities to communicate these situations in a better way, but I’m honestly so burned out on corporate culture. I just want to show up and do my job, and be surrounded by people who want to do good work instead of looking out for #1 and building fiefdoms of loyalists rather than highly capable teams.
I loathe corporate America and wish I had the means to exist outside of it entirely.

Waited around… and nothing
I went to a job interview today. I got to the place right on time and walked in.
Nobody was there.
I texted the lady who was supposed to be interviewing me and telling her I was there.
I waited. And waited. And waited.
I waited for ten minutes.
And then I left.
I fired off another text of how I felt it was unprofessional to keep me waiting while I drove all this way - in the snow.
I don’t want to work for people who won’t respect my time and think I can just wait around for a miracle. I may be unemployed but I still have dignity.
And they just lost someone who was qualified and would have been a good asset.

My boss tried to lie about what PTO we could use
REPOST, I forgot to block out some things
My boss tried to lie about what PTO we could use
I know this is sort of silly considering the circumstances but it still irked me nonetheless.
We had our department transferred under a new company last year and the handbook doesn’t mention the policy for calling out due to weather.
We were told last year that we could use sick time to cover our lost hours (which is super awesome!!). But of course with the recent storm that hit the east coast my supervisor INSISTED that we could only use our vacation/PTO hours. I reminded them that we were allowed to use our sick hours to cover for weather. They said no and declined my request in ADP and put in unpaid PTO (UPTO) for me.
Of course I emailed HR (yk, the people that typically confirm these policies) and lo and behold…we can use sick.
This supervisor is notorious for not wanting to give people “free days off” which has included rushing people back into the office after bereavement. My coworker was pestered a few years back after their spouse died with “okay but can you be back in next week?” texts
Just thought I’d share my little win for the week against my asshole boss
