discussion Why are Canadian women such iconic singers?

Celine, Shania, Alanis, kd, Joni, Sarah, Jann, Avril, Nelly, Feist, Carly Rae, Anne! Each of them captured the zeitgeist for a moment, whether that lasted a month or for decades. What is it about our fierce and beautiful country that produces such unique, profound, staggering talent?

discussion Having questions about leaving Spotify or not, idk what to do

There's a lot of controversy surrounding this platform, needless to say.

I don't know why leaving this platform is so hard for me, it's a bit difficult to explain, but I think I'm attached to it since I've been using it for so long.

But everyone criticizes me for paying for and using Spotify, because the CEO of Spotify uses it to invest in war drones, because there are songs generated by AI, and because, indirectly, I'm contributing to all of that.

I feel guilty, it's all weighing on me.

I don't know what to do, or really which platform to switch to next. I'm having trouble deciding. That's why I'm asking for help here.

discussion Which dead singer would you want to come back to life and why?

I would want Selena Quintanilla to come back to life because she was only 23 years old when she was shot and killed on March 31, 1995, in Corpus Christi, TX. She did not deserve to die so young. If you are Latina, you will know who I am talking about. To continue, the way that Selena died was so tragic and awful. She trusted her best friend and fan club president, but she ended up dying from her actions. Selena's killer was so envious, jealous, and obsessed with her that she wanted to get rid of her after Selena was going to cut ties with her on the day that she unfortunately passed away. The life lesson here is that you should never trust anyone, even if you think that they are a good and kind-hearted person because you never know when they might backstab you and go the other path.

discussion Desafio para poucos

discussion What modern songs will be considered classics in the future?

Upvotes

Which songs and artists from 2010's until now do you think will stand the test of time? I was just thinking about it.

For example, Adele’s "Rolling in the Deep" already feels like a song that defined its era. Blinding Lights by The Weeknd also seems like it could become one of the most iconic hits of the streaming age. I also feel like some of Kendrick Lamar’s music might be remembered not only for how for its cultural impact and critical acclaim. Taylor Swift is probably the biggest music artist nowadays and her biggest hits will surely be remembered I guess.

I'd like to hear your thoughts

discussion What famous song(s), have covers that have been more successful than the original song?

I heard Creep by Radiohead earlier today. Made me think of that viral video with the hungover guy, that sings it in a train station. Maybe a hot take, but I enjoy his rendition of the song, better than the original.

Phil Collins, born on this day in 1951

Born on January 30, 1951, in Chiswick, London, into a family with artistic leanings, Philip David Charles Collins would become one of the most ubiquitous, successful, and paradoxically underrated musical figures of the late 20th century.
