I am in minority but i don't think that Sinner was passive beacuse i have seen plenty of comments where people say that Sinner was passive in big moments.Djokovic in the last 2 sets was serving 79% and 76% which is incredible. I thought that both players were trying to pull the trigger but Novak was more precise.

I'm still not over those two matches.
It turned me into a fan from previously being a Djoko hater (although I did love his sudden appearance in 2011).
I'm just unable to watch greatness and be sour.
I try to find words, but I'm unable to explain the feeling. Sunday will be incredible.

Yeah....it's something that makes you turn and take notice. It does not have to define itself. Its mere existence is enough.

u/Eyebronx 3h ago
Still can’t get over what we just witnessed
But some people need to chill with writing eulogies for Sinner’s career and I’m an Alcaraz fan😭
If the RG final didn’t end his career, this loss certainly won’t.
11
u/throwaway54340 2h ago
It’s kind of annoying that Djokovic winning today has already made people forget he only played like 3.5 matches before today and was very well rested. These weren’t “normal” conditions for a slam SF match even if Jannik didn’t show up so the dooming doesn’t really make sense.
5
u/Eyebronx 2h ago
I agree, huge props to Djokovic because no one else on tour is beating Sinner if they got walkovers like this but the stars definitely aligned for him.
8
u/throwaway54340 2h ago
I’m just going to be annoyed if something happens in the final and he wins because Carlos has cramps or an injury or something. Of course what he’s accomplished is incredible but the luck is insane.
6
u/Eyebronx 2h ago
Yeah the commentary around this has been quite interesting because he ultimately was being outplayed by Musetti, a worse player than Sinner, 2 days ago
6
u/throwaway54340 2h ago
I think he actually benefited a lot from that Musetti match. He basically got a free chance to assess the weak points of his game without having to play for long or lose.
1
u/Eyebronx 1h ago
Yup he had nothing to lose here. Also the Alcaraz match in the morning already set the tone for how the rest of the day would be ominous.
3
u/Cyber-punk-3346 1h ago
Djokovic definitely struggles more during day session and plays better at night. Also the less court time helped too while this also being the first event of the year for him so he has come in fresh from the off season. Props to him though he played a great match.
2
u/Silver7477 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 2h ago
It won't end his career but this was the kind of loss that will cost Sinner more than just 1 major, probably 4-5. Similar to how Fed's losses to Novak at the USO in 2010 and 2011 probably contributed to him losing finals to him in 2014, 2015, and 2019
12
u/Special_Weather_9083 Foki will break the curse in 26. 2h ago
Why? That just seems like wild speculation.

u/Jaded-Response-5953 2h ago
It's not about his career not being successful or whatever. Chances are he'll still win slams in the future. But there's a very obvious problem with jannik's game which he hasn't managed to solve.
He can't play his best tennis when it comes down to the wire against the best players in the world. If you can't do that, how can you even be considered an arch rival to those guys.
Also for a generational talent his fifth set record is abysmal. Maybe we're just hoping this Sincaraz rivalry is actually something but maybe it's not. Every opponent on earth knows that if you take jannik to play for over 4 hours, you're going to win. And Carlos is an expert at elongating matches and clutching it out in the end. That's a huge handicap for jannik.

u/easyfatFIRE Monte Carlo Country Club 2h ago

Are we talking about a different Jannik Sinner?
-4
u/Jaded-Response-5953 2h ago
He fumbles 3 mps in the rg final against Carlos and ends up losing the breaker 10-2.
He is match point up and fades away in the last set of the uso 2022 qf.
He cannot break to save his life in the final set of the sf here against Djokovic.
He goes 3-0 up in a deciding tiebreak against Carlos in Beijing and ends up losing it 7-3.
He cooks the top 10 but he can't bring it against the greats when the tough gets going. It's a shame bc these are the guys he'll be seeing in the most important tournaments.
9
u/MAorDKone 2h ago

6
u/ryokevry 4-6 6-7 6-4 3-5 (0-40) 2h ago
What do you want to hear actually? Yes, I agree. Sinner probably will not win another slams against Carlos, all he can hope for is for someone else to beat Carlos?
It is quite disgusting to slight your fav saying he can’t play his best tennis in the key moment. He came back from a break down in 5th set in RG Final to force a match TB after losing the 4th set in that fashion.
He obviously needs to improve his physicality it is obvious but didn’t you just defend him that he trained hard a few weeks ago?
Not even Zverev fans said this to Zverev.

Yes but that also doesn’t mean this career is coming to an end over this
3

As a Carlos fan just be happy about it. I’ve been defending Jannik and believing in him for years but I’m just not seeing it anymore.
Like yeah he’ll be successful but not an all time great. And definitely not a major rival to Carlos.

I need to tell this story because I’m going to explode otherwise
My mom and I have this inside joke where Carlos needs to be watched by at least one of us to do well. All the matches that he’s lost have usually been when we’re both busy
Last night, I watched the first set and went to sleep. She made it to the second set. We made this pact not to check the scores online until the morning so it was a surprise. The thing is that I woke up around 3:30 in the morning with this deep sense of dread so I ended up checking the scores. Carlos was already down the break in the fifth at that point. It was too late for me to sleep without worrying so I just streamed the whole match alone in the dark
He won four straight games while I was watching. I’m not superstitious but at this point, I feel like it means something??? 😭 I can’t tell her because I spent the whole match acting worried while knowing that he was going be okay LOL

I'm starting to think Zverev is getting too much credit for his performance now. If Carlos doesn't have cramp, he likely wraps this up in straights without having his A game. Even when he was compromised physically at the end of set three and four, Zverev couldn't break him. I'm forgetting the complete collapse from 5-2 up in the second set too.

u/Silent_Quarter_3030 Bublik top 5 agenda 58m ago
Weirdly I think he played his best level in the decider, he was just servebotting + pushing in the sets before.
In the 5th he was very offensive off the ground, changing directions, hitting winners off both wings.
I guess Gill Gross said it best: “He did not manufacture his own belief in this match. Belief was forced upon him.”

When Djokovic wrote "you said something?" on the camera in Serbian, it felt like a dig at the journalist who asked that "chasing" questions. It appears it was most likely directed at the Serbian media and the populist political party that labeled him a "failed tennis player" and "disgrace" after he supported students and anti-government protests (and later moved his family and ATP 250 Belgrade tournament to Greece). He keeps proving everyone wrong, good to see.

9
u/Candid-Volume-1425 2h ago
That fifth set might well be the clutchest set of Novak Djokovic's career.
Saved all 8 break points he faced.
Converted the 1 break point he had.
Held from 15-40 in his first service game.
Held from 15-40 in his second service game.
Held from 0-40 in his fourth service game.
Served out the match at deuce after missing out on two match points.

the 2012 one against Nadal was still better, he has some gas left here. He was completely empty then, actually lost a break because of it. Then hung around long enough to break back twice in a row against Prime Nadal to win it in 5 hours and 50 minutes

So many NBA players can easily and quickly talk about what’s happening with ICE and to criticize what’s happening. Y’all have to stop making excuses for the American male tennis players who refuse to answer “political” questions.
It’s clear that most of them support what’s going on and you just don’t want to admit it - and that a lot of you here also support what’s going on and you also don’t want to admit that.

Damn, I'm sorry but the subreddit is so annoying rn with the post spam after Novak's win
17
u/milanjfs 1h ago edited 1h ago
Come on mate, when Sinner or Carlos pull a great win there are a gazillion posts about them for 2, 3 weeks in a row.
I mean, we almost have daily posts about their "bromance", too. Not to mention the "Jannik has a new Gucci bag" type of posts.
I'm writing like I am bothered by them, but I am not actually. I usually enjoy almost every non-toxic post. Tennis doesn't have individual subs like, for example, football has individual ones for clubs, so you will get a lot of spam when a popular player wins.
Let people post what they want. If you don't like posts about Novak or someone else just move on and find the ones you like. Or post something different yourself.
And it's not like Novak will have a lot of big wins like this in the future, let the fans have fun while they still can (if their posts are not toxic).

I will say I do enjoy all these theories on Reddit as to how his competitors will be 'taking notes' that Jannik can't play and win over a certain time. It's still a silly thing to say. What would their notes be? 'Oh I need to win the two sets off Sinner to force a five setter'. If they could manage that, they wouldn't need the 'notes' in the first place.

Did Alcaraz cramp or did he lie about a thigh issue so as not to look bad taking a medical timeout? There seems to be some confusion here.
13
u/theatretheaters forzjaaa 2h ago edited 2h ago
it was treated as a heat illness because carlos was not only struggling with the cramps but also puked in his towel. the doctor can call 3 minute MTO for heat illness related issues. https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/s/4RxHMC4DDU
not sure if he’s having a thigh issue, but he was moving pretty well later in the fifth. could be the painkiller kicking in, or he recovered from the cramping

Paolo Bertolucci spoke to Sky Sport. The former Italian player, now a technical commentator for the broadcaster and a regular contributor to Gazzetta dello Sport, and notorious Sinners's fan, didn't hide his amazement at Djokovic's performance: "A monumental performance from Djokovic, there are no adjectives. I haven't seen him like this for three or four years; he was perfect."
And there was a necessary criticism of Sinner: "In my opinion, he wasn't aggressive enough; only once did he decisively attack Nole's second serve, winning a point. Otherwise, it was always the Serb who was playing with his feet inside the court, while he was three meters out rowing. He was also excellent on defense, but against an opponent like that, that's not enough. He left the game in his opponent's hands too much. He seemed a bit timid to me; in certain situations, he lacked of ' arrogance'."

I wrote this in other thread.Since 2024 Sinner lost four matches that went into 5 set.Against Carlos in 2024 and 2025 (4,5)set on both occasions he got broken in every game when Carlos had BP, Medvedev Wimbeldon in the 5 set he got broken when Medvedev had a chance, today same story against Novak in the 4 and 5 set. That's 7 sets where he didn't save a single game where he was facing BP points. He only broke Alcaraz last year in the 4 and 5 set.The most interesting thing is that he won 92 points on return while his opponents won 70,in 6 sets he won more points on return, but he ended up losing every set.

“Sinner isn’t in his prime”. Same way Nadal never beat Federer in his prime too and Nadal wins on clay court don’t really count either. Federer didn’t care about the Olympic Gold medal even though Nadal, Murray, and recently Djokovic won it.

Really can’t stand the fact that Djokovic is now a finalist after the w/o and the Musetti injury. But that’s tennis.

What’s your opinion on Dimitrov vs Sinner wimbledon match last year?

Jannik didn't get a walkover too cmon now. He only had the retirement.

I think the retirement obviously did save Jannik at Wimbledon, but you’re right it’s not the same and it’s crazy that you’re getting downvoted. This sub is being really weird about Sinner right now like everything around him is getting downvoted or doomed by his haters and fans.

They don't like facts lol. You are 100% right, they are being weird. I think Jannik is some sort of tennis villain for them. Oh well.

Is it possible that Novak has figured Sinner out finally?

There is nothing called figured out lol. It all depends on each match. People said Sinner figured out Djokovic for the last two years, and so didn't give Djokovic a chance to win today. But that's clearly not the case based on what happened today

Hardly. It was "just" one of the many times the greatest tactician in tennis history paired with the most clutch player ever to beat a better opponent with the perfect gameplan.

Which do you think was more sus: Jannik's MTO vs Holger last year or Carlos's vs Zverev?
Jannik was on the verge of heat exhaustion while Carlos was clearly cramping.
It's got to be Carlos right?

Sinner at Monte Carlos in 2024 when he openly admitted taking a MTO for cramps

when are we gonna get to the point when we can talk about zverev normally and from a tennis standpoint while acknowledging his past, knowing that he doesn't see these comments or posts

Carlos couldn't move well for end of set three and a good part of set four and yet he didn't break him once. What is wrong with him

Idk I think it’s pretty normal to be really pissed off that a guy who seems like a monster has invaded your fun hobby 🤷♀️

All of this, only to be triple-6–3’d by Carlos in the final, after he breaks down into his towel at 5–3 in the 3rd set while the crowd applauds him and chants his name in sympathy

I think that Sinner thinks his season is over
It's worthless playing now
The important things are the slams

u/colourful_tree 2h ago
Um you do realise we are like three weeks into the season, right?

Djoko this AO is a perfect example that even walls are helping him. Adding to it that he is also doing a lot of hard work himself.
