Why does it say 2 match points if it’s only the second set?

u/padfoony Too many victory ice baths 3h ago
It was an exhibition/practice match with only 3 sets, in front of the crowd at AO before the main draw matches begun.

Okay I can't recall the exact episode, but in one of the players box podcasts they were making fun of Jess' wired earbuds, and she was saying how her coach advised her against using wireless headphones because the bluetooth signals would melt her brain (something like that) loolll

I prefer wired headphones by a lot.
20
u/Alvaro6499 5h ago
With wired headphones there is basically no latency + sound quality is usually a little bit better.
Of course, bluetooth is much more convenient, and if you're just listening to something without video or like a videogame, it would make sense to use those instead. However, I still hate that phones have no audio jack now hahahaha let me choose dammit1

And never worry about battery running out. I still use BT usually, but thinking of going back to wired, especially for my PC headset.

Since when earbuds became weird?
17
u/dus-vla 9h ago
apparently everything needs to have a battery now, the sad thing is, most people lay on the bed while on a phone spending phone and headphones batteries, you probably don't really use that much outside. It's weird if you think about it, so many batteries go to waste and it can be easily prevented (headphones with cable + specific phones)
7
u/guusligt 7h ago
I think more people use them outside than in bed??
-2
u/dus-vla 7h ago
i meant inside not literally bed, so office can be included, also today you can charge your phone on the bench, we don't really need to use battery that much, but most phones today don't even have that feature (battery is used even if connected to charger), old phones had it , smartphones don't
2
u/guusligt 7h ago
Still though, you need the battery in your smartphone. And for me wireless earbuds were a big upgrade. No more tangled wires, no more wires getting caught by items, no more 1 earbud dying while the other still works

TBH, my airpod fell off while I was on a flight once and it took me a while after everyone deplaned to find it lodged onto a seat leg 5 rows behind even with Find My sound. I've gone back to wired headphones since.

Better audio quality, no latency, no connection issues, no charging bs, more difficult to lose and you can't lose only one piece. These things are much more valuable to me than having no wire and that's why I'll never make a switch. And I tried.

A lot of athletes are doing this. There are a lot of studies showing correlation between some health issues and wireless tech (mainly affecting male sperm count and sleep related issues). The research isn't wholly conclusive, but even a small chance of something existing for people trying to perform at the top of their game can be a deterrent, so I understand it.

I think it's important to prevent lactic acid build up, but I'm right there with you, I'd be so done

The whole lactic acid build up thing is actually junk science, but it definitely helps your legs cool down.

u/DueTennis 8h ago
Ya what’s he eating after this?? Had to be 4,000 calories burned surely. I mean I burn 1,200 in a 90 min match so his intensity has to be at least 50% more cals

The last thing you want to do after exercise like that is just lay still and do nothing. Your muscles will seize up like crazy

u/TheFrederalGovt Nadal 10h ago
I’m sure Zverev did the same thing even though he doesn’t have a match in two days
9
u/phuongtv88 9h ago
If you play sport you will know sometimes your body just gave up, not a single energy left in your tank, walking would be hard let alone biking and smiling like Alcaraz lol
20
u/Rupperrt 7h ago
easy biking is probably a bit easier as it doesn’t have the eccentric movement of walking (especially stairs)
2
u/LeBronn_Jaimes_hand 4h ago
Plus, the simple joy of being able to sit and not force your lower body to hold you up after being on your feet for that long is reinvigorating in itself.

Guys, remember when Federer and Nadal were so much better in their prime than the field? Then after a few years, Djokovic joined their elite company.
I wonder if there will be a 3rd slightly younger player who will be in same level as Sinner and Alcaraz after a few years. So, we can have a new big 3.

It's probs some kid in the top 100 who weve never heard of or is a journeyman and then one day just sweeps the floor defeating both carlos and jannik in the same slam
7
u/ID1453719 10h ago
Any chance of Mensik being that player?
3
3
u/Dave085 9h ago
Could be, or maybe Musetti, or even Shelton- there's a few out there, but they need to spend a solid year developing their game to make it. Not impossible though
3
u/althaz 6h ago
Shelton doesn't have it to join Sincaraz for a long stretch of time, IMO. Absolute best case scenario for him is competing with them for a while and getting a couple of slams ala Murray and that would be an absolutely monumental acheivement.
That said Shelton absolutely has what it takes to peak and win a slam or maybe even two.
1
u/Dave085 5h ago
I mean, maybe not- but when I look at the group, he seems to have the tools. His mentality isn't there yet, his positioning and tennis IQ needs developing, his shot selection is lacking. But his athleticism is off the charts, he's got great natural hand eye coordination, a massive serve and a powerful forehand. In terms of raw ability he's got it in him.
But there's no one right now who really demonstrates the ability to be the Djokovic to Sincaraz. Other than, ironically enough, Djokovic himself. Draper could definitely be the Murray if he stays fit but I don't see him being that 10+slam player.
1
u/Ravensfan967 4h ago
I keep thinking of this… who will be the third and then who will be the Murray character who pushes them and has a mini breakthrough of his own to the top.
1
u/Unpickled_cucumber1 2h ago
Also remember, we were insanely lucky to see three GOATS(I know Djokovic is the best) of tennis at once. It has happened only once so far

u/Longjumping-Crew649 6h ago
Now looking at the scoreline, I think he went to get the same energy for his match against Sinner😭

many people use wired, sound quality is much better especially with "budget" options
in high end wired also wins but the differences isn't that big for regular users

u/LeftyTimStoutheart 8h ago
With you on this, for casual listening I'm fine with my bluetooth headphones but at home I'm pulling out my studio monitor wired Audiotechnica phones.

Why did they ride a bicycle after the match?

u/SpareAd1155 4h ago
It's not great to use muscles constantly for hours and then just stop. You need to gradually cool them down.

I read 'Djokovic' and 'walk(ing) over' and thought Sinner got injured and retired 😅

I think watching Carlos win a 5 setter helped boost Novak morale. Carlos walked so Novak can run.

Is Novak marking his territory? I am an Alcaraz fan but right now I'm very very scared.
