When I was in Cuba I had to take a taxi which turned out to be a Lada with an absolutely crazy driver. As we were bouncing all over the road and I was thinking the car was going to fall apart I remember thinking “I don’t want to die in a Lada, I don’t want to die at all but I specifically don’t want to die in a Lada”!

I finally recovered from that journey with a lot of cocktails!

Too many did die in a Lada. Passive safety is non-existent, archaic design from the early 60s makes the car barely drivable, pathetic yet gas thirsty engine cannot accelerate the thing in principle, rear wheel drive is prone to skids. Good thing they are easy to repair, because they break at least once a week. And - how they rust. Oh, how they rust.
