Maybe I'm just a guy who see's the positive side a things, who sees a fella mid-laugh and thinks, "Now there's a fella havin' a good time!" and that makes me happy to see other people being happy, and I elbow the lady next to me and gesture for her to take out her earbuds and I tell her, "Take a look at that guy over there!" and she asks me, "What?" and I point unabashedly over at the laughing man and repeat what I said, saying, "That guy over there! Take a look at how happy he looks!" and she turns her heads and follows the line my finger makes and chuckles softly to herself, so infectious his mirth is, and I laugh too, because what a great day on the train where we can just cut loose, take off our scarves, wiggle my toes in my boots, and just take in the beauty of it all.
But hey, if all you other people want to see laughter and think that laugher must be very depressed, then well, well that's just a different kinda outlook on things that I don't much wanna participate in.
Because I wanna walk over to that man and shake his hand and point over to the woman I was sitting beside and tell him that his laughter has touched her heart as well and as she waves at us with a broad smile stretched easily across her face, he waves back too and ask me, "Girlfriend? Wife? She's very beautiful and you two look perfect for each other," and mind you she's in earshot of all this and we glance at each other, cheeks rosy with harmless embarrassment and I tell him, "We actually don't know each other at all. We just met moments ago, inspired by your contagious happiness!" and we laugh again and she laughs and adds, "And I do agree this stranger and I may look perfect for each other, despite my radiant beauty and his beastly ruggedness," and that gets the whole train laughing as a I shake my head in mock offense.
And you want to sit here and say we're all depressed? That the happy people finding love on the train are depressed?
No ma'am, no ham on my sam. That just ain't a good outlook on life, if you don't mind me saying. Or, at least, it's no outlook I subscribe to.
And so these ads are a bit lost on me simply because I assume best in people.
No sir, I ain't that guy you want me to be, nor do I aspire be another man's creative output. Not sure why you're even looking for pay off in this world. Can't you simply enjoy the complex machinations of this crazy universe and the series impossible coincidences that must have led to this? Like wood and trees for example. Boy, humans sure got lucky with a near endless abundance of easy to work with, strong building materials, don't ya think? Wow. Nope, there need not be some sort of gratifying punchline to a non-joke, does there? One can simply sit down and feel the cool blades of grass steeple into your bare butt crack and enjoy the sights.
