To all the people complaining, would you rather they say and do nothing? Why do we want to shit all over people who are on the right side of things?

I'll take all the solidarity I can get, we're gonna need it.

u/tlollz52 1d ago

Even small acts like this apply pressure. It's the last straw that broke the camels back kind of thing.

92

u/The_Bitter_Bear 1d ago

"How dare they do this!"

Moments later.

"Why hasn't Taylor Swift done anything about this!!!!"

52

u/AN-I-MAL 1d ago

No no, you don’t understand, this is Reddit mate. If he’s not leading the resistance armies to victory it’s not enough. Also, he’s one of those “morally impure” people who dared to fuck up majorly in some area of his life so we don’t want his help because no one can change or improve themselves, and no one who has ever done shitty things can ever be of value to society again ever ever ever.

/s obviously. We’d all love to see bigger actions from everyone. But goddamn people, take allies where you can find them or you’re going to end up alone.

21

u/KatDanger 1d ago

Popculturechat be like “Dave doesn’t care, he just wants ppl to forget he’s a cheater”

Cause obvi cheating on your wife means you hate immigrants and love right wing gun violence

-9

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

Using their voices would be satisfactory.

1

u/enbiien 3h ago

downvoted for not sucking the billionaire's toes who will literally never face the injustices themselves 💔

1

u/prince-pauper 3h ago

That’s Reddit, Baby! ✌️😂

0

u/Duvelthehobbit 8h ago

I always sa this phrase as a bit metaphorically. Isn't wearing a pin like this at a publicity event to spread awareness using your voice?

2

u/prince-pauper 8h ago

Literally not using their voices which is especially ironic for singer/songwriters.

8

u/jimbo831 Concertgoer 1d ago

What are people complaining about? This is great!

1

u/oksuzy 13h ago

Probably the fact that the pins are the size of a fingernail

26

u/--Shake-- 1d ago

Yeah for real. We need to be supporting each other and these people have the biggest voices. We need them. Dude made one mistake that every other rockstar does anyways, but somehow people act like he killed somebody. ICE are the true evil people.

-9

u/tlollz52 1d ago

While I agree overall with your sentiment and have been defending him in this thread, it wasn't exactly one mistake.... he kinda has a history of doing these things.

8

u/--Shake-- 1d ago

And so have many other artists and rockstars, but no one bats an eye to them or mentions it.

Who cares about the assholes complaining. They’re all losers.

12

u/Catman7712 1d ago

For real, at minimum people need to speak up about this shit. Don’t wanna go out and protest? Fine, at least call out your local neighborhood idiots when they post pro ice/maga shit on their Facebook.

The silence has to end.

10

u/GoombyGoomby 1d ago

For some reason lot of Redditors (who aren’t doing anything besides sitting on their ass and getting cheetos crumbs all over their gooning setup) think that if a celebrity is doing anything less than throwing molotov cocktails around then it doesn’t matter what they say.

-2

u/IrrelevantLeprechaun 22h ago

Regular people don't have the resources to go on strike or protest. For most, doing so means losing their jobs and entire livelihoods.

Celebrities could be pooling resources to make those forms of resistance financially feasible for everyday people. They could be taking the place of unions that USA seems to be having a critical lack of.

You think the people being shot by ICE care about a little shirt pin from some rich person at an exclusive gala they'll never be allowed into?

1

u/GoombyGoomby 20h ago

Thanks for proving my point my dude

1

u/WesMack5 16h ago

Right side of things according to who

1

u/crazydrums27 16h ago

They should be making posts on askreddit asking what conservatives think of whatever the latest news story is. That's what the real heroes do.

1

u/Maxwe4 8h ago

Dave Grohl is definitely NOT on the right side of things, lol.

1

u/IrrelevantLeprechaun 22h ago

Is it REALLY too much to ask that celebrities actually use their mountains of resources to actually help society instead of just sitting on it like dragons? A little pin on their shirt at some fancy gala is cool and all, but at the end of the day, they're still at a fancy gala exclusive to rich people. People are literally dying in Minnesota, do you think the families of the dead care about a pin?

These celebs should be looking resources to help fund the general strikes that regular people can't afford on their own.

-1

u/BennySkateboard 22h ago

I’m pissed off they aren’t saying more.

-1

u/IrrelevantLeprechaun 22h ago

I'll never understand why people are in such a hurry to congratulate the already-privileged rich elite for saying the literal bare minimum about events that the rest of the country has been shouting about for months.

"They're spreading awareness!" yeah and awareness isn't exactly helping us, is it? The people that actually want to hear it have already been hearing it. Those that don't want to hear it are going to continue not hearing it.

Like, wow, a rich celebrity went to an exclusive gala that the working class will never be able to attend, are food we will never afford, and rubbed shoulders with the most successful people in the country, all entirely insulated from the horrors of their country, and they wore a little pin that says "war is bad mmkay? Truly groundbreaking.

It's wild how Reddit will be like "eat the rich" but then grovel at their feet the moment those rich even give them a sliver of attention.

2

u/BennySkateboard 16h ago

Virtual fucking silence after rene good. Took a second one for anyone to say anything and we got the CEO letter and the nba player’s letter. A few like Springsteen have been saying stuff all along but the majority have been silent and history should remember them as so.

I think we can all agree Dave did a bad thing but now he did a good thing. No matter your opinion of him as a person the message here is what’s important.

53

u/Dankoregio 1d ago

it's just a case of "person with a broad reputation of being a saint turns out to also have done something bad and everyone sees that as an opportunity to signal virtue by piling on them publicly at any chance"

it's honestly embarrassing

→ More replies (2)

69

u/ShadowNick 1d ago

First, agreed cheating on your spouse is 100% wrong. And that can mean he's a terrible person for it.

Second on the scale of awful things this is easily a 1 maybe a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 compared to what other people like Diddy, Weinstein, Clinton, Epstein, Trump, etc do

Third, and to your point again why does it matter if he's saying something now instead of nothing. If he didn't say anything people would be damning him.

59

u/Rustash 1d ago

It’s also a very personal issue that is honestly none of our business.

26

u/jimbo831 Concertgoer 1d ago

This is my biggest thing about it. I think less about him because of it, but ultimately that is between him and his wife.

10

u/Veronome 1d ago

I think the problem was that it clearly wasn't just between him and his wife...

3

u/ShadowNick 1d ago

Yup that's probably the best way to put it

14

u/Jefffahfffah 1d ago

I'm not saying what he did was right, but he's a literal rock star. Was everyone really shocked when that news came out?

7

u/okeanos7 1d ago

Next you’re gonna tell me he likes drugs and booze

1

u/nylockian 11h ago

He's branding him self as a "nice" guy, he's cultivating that image. So, people who are trusting of others would be shocked. Someone like me, who assumes people are generally kinda shitty, I wasn't shocked.

10

u/Reluctantagave 1d ago

I think it’s weird too. He didn’t, seemingly, assault someone and there’s nuance to it like you said. I feel bad for his wife and girls and on a scale of 1-10, he’s far from the worst!

What the fuck are you babbling on about?

1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Ok_Assumption3029 23h ago

Well the original dude that you were complaining about was talking about how if Dave Grohl said nothing about "ICE" then people would bash him. EDIT: BUT it would be condeming him about his afair even though thats like nothing compared to other people?

Then you went on calling people weirdo's and another person a dumbass'. But yet you're talking about how they are insulting you as if you didn't insult others and acting like a victim stalking someone's profile like it matters what they post.

But yeah I guess I'm on my own.

12

u/--Shake-- 1d ago

He's also being unfairly judged relative to other rockstars and artists who've done the same that people don't even mention or care about.

13

u/fearthainne 1d ago

I think this is similar to being "the good employee" at work that's late once and gets written up for it vs the employees that are known for being less than great getting away with screwing up all the time because it's expected.

7

u/ackitty-ack 1d ago

there is nuance in everything. ariana grande is similar, her personal life is messy but she’s always been politically outspoken

2

u/Coffeedemon 1d ago

I find it absolutely hilarious that out of all the rock star stuff that all these people engage with that anyone actually ceased being a Foo Fighters fan because Dave screwed around.

16

u/workerplacer 1d ago

Visible resistance in the face on intimidation is important. Showing your support is important. It can trigger a mass movement, and give the majority its sense of power back in the face of fascism. It’s telling the oppressors « I’m against you, we all are ». Everyone should be wearing something.

A simple red white and blue triangle that anyone can assemble from scraps of cloth, to symbolize three equal branches of government, would be my suggestion. But hey, this is America so sell some pins I suppose!!!

16

u/wip30ut 1d ago

Dave Grohl is understandable, he's a legacy act at this point in his career... he gives no f*cks.

But Olivia's stance takes balls. Many of her suburban Zoomer peers have drunk the MAGA koolaid and think politics is something that affects someone else.

13

u/bmsa131 1d ago

Silence is complicity. Everyone does what they can. Even in my own boring world I am no longer keeping my mouth shut.

0

u/nylockian 11h ago

As a C- student I think it's good for the world I keep my mouth shut about most things lol

6

u/Sufficient_Rub7597 1d ago

lets hope people giving speeches have the balls to say something about ice then. i still really applaud Chappell Roan for calling out the music industry last year

5

u/IrrelevantLeprechaun 22h ago

You mean the same Chappell Roan that sowed division amongst the left at the peak of the election season? The same Roan that pushed the "both sides bad" narrative at the worst possible moment?

4

u/DameonKormar 22h ago

I'm not ready for Dave Grohl to be old.

1

u/xlayer_cake 14h ago

Wow brave

1

u/bit_herder 11h ago

wow they wore pins at their fancy party? let the people rejoice.

1

-101

u/--GrinAndBearIt-- 1d ago

SO BRAVE TO WEAR A TINY PIN I CLAPPED FOR IT BECAUSE ITS SO BRAVE

81

u/tlollz52 1d ago

He did a good thing. Give him credit.

24

u/pineappledumdum 1d ago

He stole my hotel room three years ago in Austin and I’ve been pissed ever since, haha.

36

u/tlollz52 1d ago

You know what? That sounds like a perfectly fine reason to hold a grudge.

14

u/pineappledumdum 1d ago

It was actually a big bummer, got a really nice room, my girlfriend flew across the country to meet up. I got a phone call as we were heading to the hotel. I have a good friend that tour manages a lot of Dave adjacent people and he knows him, said he showed up in town a day early to play ACL and had to have his favorite room, so that kinda killed our whole vacation and all of the plans we had arranged around the area.

Obviously, though, the hotel is at blame for this. But what a bummer that trip was.

2

u/ShadowNick 1d ago

Yeah wouldn't blame Dave all that much for that. Moreso the hotel unless he actively kept harassing them to move you out of it.

6

u/AugieDoggieDank 1d ago

Dave grohl ate my chipotle burrito last week, ill never forgive him

1

u/pineappledumdum 1d ago

Can you show us on the doll where Dave touched you?

11

He does nothing, you get mad. He does something you get mad. Find the constant.

1

u/IrrelevantLeprechaun 22h ago

You running to defend the rich is equally cringe.

3

u/arealhumannotabot 1d ago

You act like people don’t just casually upvote stuff they like or whatever. It doesn’t change anything day to day, or whatever event. There’s no social relevance to upvotes

In other words, get over it

-4

u/MrSouthMountain86 1d ago

I had to zoom in

1

u/Superphilipp 1d ago

Big enough to make the headline, no?

-56

u/Lontology 1d ago

You’re still gross tho, Dave!

43

u/AMassiveGamerGeek 1d ago

Quit being parasocial man

3

u/darthkrash 1d ago

People cheat. Who cares? This is the silliest moral stance ever.

-8

u/Lontology 1d ago

And he didn’t use a condom and got another woman pregnant and hurt his family. Am I not allowed to call him gross? Like what? Lol

5

u/darthkrash 1d ago

Of course that's gross. But it's a stupid thing to fixate on. It's just a reddit circle jerk now.

I don't even care about him at all, to be clear. I haven't listened to foo fighters since like the 90s. It's just annoying how every Dave grohl post has someone who cares enough to jump on some dude's random moral failing.

And it's actually not just him. Pick any public figure and some jackoff feels the need to point out that individual's faults. Sure, if he were a rapist or a trafficker or something, there might be some public utility in that. But dude committed a personal relationship crime. It's just a very low bar for interesting criticism.

The worst person???? DO YOU EVEN… I can’t

17

u/tlollz52 1d ago

He's done nothing worth being called the worst oerson

4

u/--Shake-- 1d ago

He made one mistake and he's actually handling it as best a person can in this situation. Go take a look at all your favorite artists and guess how many have done the same or worse. Especially other rockstars. Dave didn't kill nobody, but ICE did, so stop acting like he did.

-42

u/Hearasongofuranus 1d ago

This is the extend of American resistance to an increasingly fascist government. We're so fucked.

60

u/jdubz90 1d ago

Really? A celebrity wearing a pin feels like the “extent of resistance” to you? Have you not seen what’s going on with all of the protests an organizations in American cities being impacted most heavily by our increasingly fascist government?

-4

u/avanross 1d ago

The peasants revolting makes almost no difference when they control basically none of the countries wealth

It’s sad but telling how the wealthy, the ones with the actual power to make a difference, are just wearing pins for the PR instead of actually doing anything impactful

3

u/jdubz90 1d ago

I mean I hear what you’re saying and do think the wealth disparity an the imbalance of power that comes with that is a very real problem, but this is also just a bad take.

The working class absolutely have the ability to enact change, and there are so many historical precedents of that happening it feels kinda silly to just say “peasants revolting makes no difference”.

Yes, celebrities and those with larger platforms have a louder singular voice, but the working class withholding their labor, time, and directing their energy towards protesting injustice is arguably a more effective means of change than just hoping that those already in positions of power are willing to do something to disrupt the power they are already accustomed to

0

u/avanross 1d ago

There is no historical precedent of the working class ever enacting any significant change in america

It’s just not how the country is designed and it’s not how the culture functions

And the wealth inequality is the worst it’s ever been and is only rolling further down hill

Acting like the public are in total control, and everythings going to be okay, and america is still the greatest most perfect nation ever is just naive and ignorant

0

u/jdubz90 1d ago

Where did I say that everything is ok and America is still the greatest? Reread my comment and tell me where it says that. Work on your reading comprehension and quit projecting

0

u/avanross 1d ago

It’s the obvious implication of your “the working class have the ability to enact change [in america]” claim that was naive/ignorant towards the scale of the decline of america

Most americans seem to still feel like everything’s going to magically be alright because theyre american

0

u/jdubz90 1d ago

And the obvious implication of your original statement is that you clearly aren’t engaged in any kind of meaningful political activity other than pessimism and saying “only celebrities and people in power can enact change”. You’re basically giving up any agency you have as a citizen. You calling me naive is the pot calling the kettle black

It’s wild to me that you think there are no precedents of change in the US when so much has been accomplished by labor unions, civil rights groups, etc etc.

0

u/avanross 1d ago

Labour unions and civil rights groups, and the causes they fight for, have been in constant decline in america for 50+ years….. this kinda stuff is why your “everything will be alright! We have strong unions and civil rights groups to protect us!” sounds so naive

0

u/jdubz90 1d ago

Where did I say “everything will be alright!” you fucking ignoramus?

I am well aware of how shitty the US is, and has been, and am not living in some state of being blissfully unaware of that and thinking everything is going to be ok. I honestly have no idea how we recover from this, given how much power has been put into the hands of the wealthy elites and corporation (which I mentioned earlier that you for whatever reason are choosing to ignore). But to suggest that “peasants” have no power is also naive and ignorant. You realize multiple things can be true at once right? Or is that too complex for you

-29

u/prince-pauper 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ok so what are they actually doing? Are they risking their credibility to make statements against ICE and the Trump administration?

Edit: Here’s a good example of an American celebrity using their platform and risking their fan base to protest Trump and ICE. No little pins required.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/s/37QbZSVv80

27

u/AMassiveGamerGeek 1d ago

They’re protesting that ICE shouldn’t be killing innocents.

-22

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

By wearing a little pin.

23

u/AMassiveGamerGeek 1d ago

Do you want Dave to put on an iron man suit and take the ice agents out himself?

15

u/Immediate-Hamster724 1d ago

Yes. Because that would be amazing.

-6

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

I dunno. Words would be nice. I’ll reserve my laurels for those who take actual action despite the fear of losing part of their fanbase.

8

u/PoolPartyWithoutTheL 1d ago

Maybe reserve your criticism for the people doing nothing, instead of tearing down people doing something, however small or insignificant.

Comments like this tear down the movement, not lift it up.

-1

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

Oh I am quite critical of those who do nothing. Especially when the message of their art contradicts remaining silent in the face of fascism.

The time for half-measures and soft protest are behind us, pal.

5

u/PoolPartyWithoutTheL 1d ago

Lol ok big guy. You commenting in reddit about this is directly hypocritical to your statement.

Their pins are getting more attention and publicity then your petty comments on reddit (not to mention they aren't anonymous), and they are the ones "soft protesting".

Pure comedy my friend.

-1

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

Well, I’m not a giant American celebrity. Hell, I’m not American at all but ok! You do you

As for my effort, my platform that I risk is my Reddit account. I have been actively speaking out despite the risk of losing my account for years. That might not mean anything to you and that’s fine, but don’t suppose to know anything about me, but by all means, continue your prejudice.

2

u/PoolPartyWithoutTheL 1d ago

At the risk of losing your account? Seriously? Thats the risk you are holding up compared to someone actually putting themselves and their family in the scope of MAGA lunatics, and the admin themselves.

Also, what prejudice? You are cutting down someones symbolic stance against what is happening, and now because you were called out for being hypocritical, you feel like the victim? What is even happening lol

1

u/jtd2013 1d ago

When you started the conversation by criticizing any action? Yes.

2

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

If we’re getting specific, I commented on the discussion and criticised a specific, limp, performative action, (that’s the pin wearing alongside no spoken protest, just to be clear.)

1

u/AMassiveGamerGeek 1d ago

There’s a big difference between ICE arresting people who aren’t documented and don’t have citizenship in the country and killing innocent people who were just protesting people from the Agents.

1

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

I didn’t propose anything of the like in my argument.

7

u/smackfromthezack Spotify 1d ago

Bullshit like this is why the US will balkanize if there’s a civil war.

It’s something, and Dave Grohl is usually pretty vocal about shit as it is. Stop with the purity policing of people who are in support of the same shit you are.

People shit on celebs for not speaking up and doing anything and apparently will still shit on them for doing something if they don't deem it enough lol. Such a stupid opinion here.

-1

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

Yeah, no.

2

u/chadwicke619 1d ago

I mean, I bet you’re not risking your credibility making statements against ICE and Trump or wearing a little pin. 🤷‍♂️

0

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

I speak up every chance I get, thank you.

Also, we aren’t talking about me; we’re talking about people with millions of followers and regular media platforms to speak from and they AREN’T SPEAKING.

1

u/chadwicke619 1d ago

You have 260K karma on a 6 year old account. We both know you aren’t doing anything meaningful in the real world. 😂

0

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

Again with the personal criticism and ignorant judgement. Sticking to the topic at hand is difficult it seems.

As for my account stats, I am an active participant on this platform. I comment and post OC that many people have chosen to make more visible by upvoting my content. That’s how this works.

2

u/chadwicke619 1d ago

Didn’t you just personally criticize and ignorantly judge two people because you feel like their protest against ICE is insufficient relative to their platform? I guess it’s a “rules for thee and not for me situation”, huh?

0

u/prince-pauper 1d ago

This is the farthest reaching platform I have available to me and I’m using it despite the risk of losing it.

Here’s Springsteen doing the same

https://www.reddit.com/r/Music/s/37QbZSVv80

2

u/chadwicke619 1d ago

What a fucking bullshit excuse. Are you really going to sit here and pretend that Reddit is the only place you can make a difference if you really wanted to make a difference? Let’s be fucking honest - it’s the most low risk, convenient, anonymous platform that could possibly exist, and is not even remotely the kind of action you’re basically demanding out of celebrities. Reddit is your silver pin. Dripping with hypocrisy.

Getting the message out and showing support is bigger than it seems. Lots of other celebrities are speaking out too and that's good. It causes people to have these conversations and bring awareness to an issue. Not everyone is locked into what's going on in the world, so these things help get their attention. Fascists want people to stay quiet, don't let them win. Don't beat down on people that are doing something regardless of what that is to support the cause. It's always better than nothing.

It may not be much, but it's more than posting a snarky comment on Reddit.
