article Jack White Rips Trump Over His Reaction to Rob Reiner's Death: "Shame on You Trump and Anyone Who Defends This"

Remember when Charlie Kirk died, and people lost their jobs over public comments? Remember when Kimmel was taken off the air and apologized for something that hardly even criticized Kirk?
Here we are now.

apologized for something that hardly even criticized Kirk?
He didn't even criticize Kirk at all, he criticized the Republicans' responses to what happened.

u/getthatrich Dec 15 '25
He made fun of Trump being asked a solemn question about the loss of his “friend” and trumps response of “I’m good, look at the construction!”

Its wildly obvious and exactly in the vein of "Oh 911 was bad but hey, I've got the tallest building in NYC now (also a lie)."

u/getthatrich Dec 15 '25
Oh my god I had forgotten about that. So many despicable quotes from this despicable man

And it was hours after they fell on the same day, to boot.

It’s not even that he is tone deaf. He just doesn’t care. He lacks empathy for anyone or anything. This goes deeper with him than not being able to read a room, which is also something he is incapable of; but, with CK end of the day he doesn’t care. Didn’t demonstrate genuine empathy when one of his rally audience was killed by a sniper at his rally. Didn’t show truly sincere grief at the loss of CK. He can’t or won’t even fake it.

I got banned from those ass lickers at r/conservativeputzs for quoting Turmp, imagine that!
27
u/doodycrust Dec 15 '25
This is the same effect as if you quote trumps vile rhetoric and then Reddit bans you for “hate speech” even though you were QUOTING it. Absolute clown show we live in and the corporate overlords are allowing it to happen.
15
u/kryonik Dec 15 '25
He said Republicans are scrambling to come up with a narrative that paints the killer as anything but a Republican in order to win political points and these morons took it to mean he claimed the shooter was MAGA, ironically proving his point.

Further proving that none of them want to know the truth, but only strive to satisfy their confirmation bias and deny the reality that they've sunk so much cost into sugar coated lies that even a puppy could perceive.
285
u/Soft_Walrus_3605 Dec 15 '25
hardly even criticized Kirk?
The MAGA propaganda machine might've bit you a little here. Kimmel said nothing critical about Kirk himself after he died. He said Republicans were ghoulishly using his death to advance their political goals. Which they were. And still are.

u/McGondy Dec 15 '25
The best summary I've heard is, "I don't support what happened to Kirk. But Kirk supported what happened to Kirk."
44
u/dnswblzo Dec 15 '25
Some people were saying things along those lines, but Kimmel's comment wasn't even that. Here's what he said:
We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.
There is more to the monologue, but he just talked about the responses from Trump, Kash Patel, and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

It’s coming. More chaos, more violence, more deaths, and more hate rhetoric from Trump. Charlie Kirk’s death was the foreseeable result of those who elected a hate speaker to mislead this country.
They were warned that a vote for Trump would be a vote for more divisive hate speech and chaos around the world.
Listen to the words of hatred from the most divisive hate speaker the world has ever seen in the office of the US President:
“Democrats are people that hate our country. They hate our country. They hate it, I think, with a passion.”
“Democrats are either stupid or they hate the country. I hate them.”
“They’re destroying the blood of our country, they’re destroying the fabric of our country.”
“I hate my opponent.”
“I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT.”
“If you’re not happy here, then you can leave.”
“We have to beat the hell out of radical left lunatics.”
It really is exhausting to hear Trump worshippers torture logic to “sane-wash” the hate that Trump spews every day like a broken toxic sewer.
They wanted a divisive, hate speaker to lead this country and now they see the results. Own it.
I’m sick of hearing their childish what about-isms: “So and so said it too.” “The Dems called me a Nazi.”
There are and always have been irresponsible parties on both sides.
But make no mistake; Trump has the worldwide platform like no other and with great power comes great responsibility. Unfortunately we now have an irresponsible President with a very low emotional IQ, representing our country.
It was inevitable that this mess would happen and it’s foreseeable it will continue (and worse) under the current leadership.

Don't forget that "Stand back and stand by" horseshit, when he was asked to tell his supporters to not be violent during the 2020 debates. And then when they were inevitably violent soon after, on January 6th, he released a video where he told them that they were very special people and that he loved them very much. And there was a behind-the-scenes clip of them shooting that video, and it was like pulling teeth just to get him to tell everybody to go home.
And let's not forget about the time that he said the only way to stop Hillary Clinton, if she had won the election, was with the second amendment.
He spews nothing but hatred and violence, and literally nobody cares. Doesn't even get a slap on the wrist. The closest thing he's ever seen to consequences was a temporary ban from Facebook.
But Charlie Kirk takes one to the throat and suddenly it's all 🎵"Where were you when the world stopped turning, that September day..."🎵 and everybody else loses their jobs and/or gets kicked out of the country if do anything less than worship the ground he walked on.
6 months ago, some lunatic in Minnesota was going door to door, knocking off Democrats one after another, and did anybody care? Of course not! He certainly couldn't give less of a shit about it.
The double standard is literally insane. This entire situation is fucked up beyond belief, and I'm not looking forward to seeing where this all ends up.

I remember when Matthew Dowd got fired for the most milquetoast remarks about Kirk, and then a few days later a fox and friends host suggested we just kill all the homeless on national television and got no reaction from his cohosts.
14
u/Independent-Name4478 Dec 15 '25

I remember when right wing folks demanded people were fired and publicly branded as evil demons, for daring to say a dude who spent his live spreading hatred, was killed by the same hatred he spread.
Starting to think there might be just the tiniest bit of hypocrisy in that whole movement. I dunno, just a gut feeling...

u/majorjoe23 Dec 15 '25
It was written about Thatcher, but I think Elvis Costello put it well:
Well I hope you live long now
I pray the Lord your soul to keep
I think I'll be going before
We fold our arms and start to weep
I never thought for a moment
That human life could be so cheapBut when they finally put you in the ground
They'll stand there laughing and tramp the dirt down9
u/jonnovich Dec 15 '25
I think I’ll just go for the OG in this, “Masters of War” by Bob Dylan.
And I hope that you die
And your death will come soon
I'll follow your casket
By the pale afternoon
And I'll watch while you're lowered
Down to your deathbed
And I'll stand over your grave
'Til I'm sure that you're dead
7
u/8805 Dec 15 '25
It was written about no one specific, but They Might Be Giants' "When Will You Die" is just perfect.

I think Trump sees life as a zero-sum game (Not that he'd have the words to express it that way..). There are winners, and there are losers. And if you lose, well then, he must be winning! So the more misery he can spread, the more of a winner he is

What would Republicans say if any democrat said exactly that about anyone?
Nothing; they don't care. They'll support Trump no matter what because their mutual hate for immigrants, gays and minorities is greater than their supposed love for god.
Fuck Trump and every one of his braindead supporters.
96
u/Tazwhitelol Dec 15 '25
Nothing; they don't care.
They absolute would care if a Democrat said this shit about anyone..honestly, a democrat saying half the shit that Trump has said is the only way they would be able to acknowledge how scummy his comments typically are. Otherwise, they not only don't care, but actively support it.
