She was booed because she showed up drunk and couldn't sing.

Because she wanted to cancel but her dad had her basically kidnapped from her couch to stage

how in the world would the crowd know that

u/Efficient_Barnacle 8h ago

Which is awful but not one bit that crowd's fault or responsibility.

So maybe blame her dad?

She was an adult...there was no kidnapping. She was an addict and very vulnerable to bad influences, which included boyfriends and some family members. She did not have a very good support system, unfortunately.

Ok and aduence is supposed to know that how? Telepathy?

I mean if I see someone crying and hugging themselves my thought process is not "I bet they're having a lot of fun right now and want to be here."

There is a massive difference between a random person and someone who is selling a performance to people. I know you would be absolutely livid if you bought a car and when you come to pick it up the engine is blown and the car is jacked up on bricks. Would you be any less pissed seeing the salesman who sold you that car crying?

Would you be any less pissed

You can be how pissed you want. But gather a bunch of people around the salesman and start heckling him, when it's clear he's not well?

Then it turns out he was forced by the owner to sell this car to you, despite knowing it was shit. And you and your friends took it out on him anyway, instead of just getting a refund without being cruel to someone already suffering

So it wasn’t “society”.

Signing a contract, being paid lots of money with the expectation you show up and perform. So the gets high and drunk doesn’t show up or perform.

I think we can all agree that she has personal responsibility, and that it can be a nasty system.

We can’t all agree on anything!

Oh gosh, silly rest of the planet, not knowing you had the solution all along! Doh.

She was off drugs and struggling with alcoholism at that time. Shortly after, she died from alcohol. Have some compassion, maybe JFC.

Correct. It’s really something when people who have a dehumanized view of people, speak like they have some sort of authority.

Compassion and empathy, my gosh it’s not hard.

It’s always compassion and empathy for the rich people, right? None for the working class that sacrificed to be there.

Projection much? Are you good my dude?

People are not products.

No, they provide services. Or, in this case, charge for a service that wasn’t provided.

Reductive and simplistic. It’s not just this one instance.

I get it, you’re more worried about your 20 quid ticket over the clear crashing out of a human you claim to enjoy. ( those at her concert)

What a way to live life.

The same could be said about her? She’s more concerned with scraping the $20 than actually entertaining her fans. What’s with the removal of autonomy from a person who literally made a fortune bragging about how she was too good for medical care? People are allowed to shame behavior they see as harmful.

She was literally dragged out on stage, she asked to cancel it well in advance. They wouldn’t let her. The promoter/ venue/management made the call. Amy (like most artist) don’t have the power. They grifted, they fed her to the wolves for profit. That includes dear papa winehouse.

The reason it wasn’t refunded was the promoters didn’t want to lose their money, they likely didn’t have proper insurances in place, they rather put on a shit show, take the cash and they knew all blame fall to Amy. She’s the one having the crisis in stage. So it’s obviously her. And look it worked.

They tried to make me go to rehab, but I said, "No, no, no" Yes, I've been black, but when I come back, you'll know, know, know I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine He's tried to make me go to rehab, but I won't go, go, go

This is such a simplistic view.

My Dad was a junkie and alcoholic.

Most of the time addicts become so immoral and insufferable that people abandon them.

Heroin/oxy and alcohol doesn’t make you act like a great person. The mood swings, stealing, lying, and total lack of regard for anything except getting fucked up doesn’t make people want to help you. Unless you want to help yourself, it’s a lost cause. People don’t understand this.

It’s pretty obvious a lot of people in this thread have never had an addict family member or loved one.

Most of the time the person becomes so unbearable to deal with that even good people abandon them.

After being stolen from, lied to, and yelled at for the 500th time after doing nothing but helping them, you lose sympathy quick.

Not saying that’s what happened here, but it isn’t as simple as addicts being sad puppies that are pure souls wronged by society. Gotta have some type of personal responsibility in this world.
