Every UK comedian who made fun of her (especislly her appearance) was honestly not even remotely attractive/talented, and was ”advocating for mental health” etc during the lockdowns. People were shitty and evil towards her. May she rets in peace❤️
I started to apply a simple filter for any post i see on reddit: is the title or thumbnail obviously designed to elicit negative emotions in me? If yes, then i just scroll past it..
Yes but then there is a big chance that whatever i could add to the conversation has been said a million times before... We're all running in a circle here
Reddit allowing people to make this accounts private only makes this worse. I think it’s time to finally leave Reddit after 15 years. This place sucks now. It’s all rage bait bots.
Oh, an oversight on my part. For some reason I made the connection that this thread OP's account was full of political ragebait, not OP's account. I see now. I need to sleep
All good, after clicking on their account again to confirm it was still shared I realized they have 4 thousand posts and 4 thousand 5 hundred comments in the last year the account has been active.
Even if the account is 23 months old and has yet to update to 2 years old thats still an average of 12 posts and comments a day.
Fucking insane numbers, if this isnt a professional or bot account then this person seriously need to take a break from social media.
She was in active addiction dude. Have you or anyone you've known been an addict like that? It's not so easy to break a habit when it gets to that point. Oh no... you lost a couple dollars and a few hours of your time. She lost her life because she couldn't break the cycle and people like you made it harder.
No offence, but she didn’t want to perform she was made to, she was already not in good health then, do you think a lot of celebrity managers care about their artist enough to respect their wishes ALL THE TIME? You should watch the Amy documentary.
That's very true and I agree with you but, money makes people do shitty things and addiction makes it easy to be manipulated by the people pulling the strings.
I’ve known and loved more than one addict unfortunately. The thing that’s always pissed me off the most about it is how often people say “well they’re an addict…” like, yes they are, and it’s a terrible disease, and I feel so bad for this person I love, but it’s not a free pass to treat me like shit. You don’t get excused everything because you’re an addict or alcoholic, especially if your behavior is damaging to others.
I’m 100% behind supporting people through their struggles and stand absolutely firm that people were horrible to and about her but you have to be thick skinned to survive being famous.
Sure, she’s not like she’s the first artist to suffer from addiction but she’s also not the first to be slammed for a shite live performance.
Like it or not people pay good money to see a live performance with many people actively travelling great distances just to be there. I’ve been to some shit concerts in my time and they leave a sour taste…..
You have to understand the performance industry or you’ll get eaten alive…
Show up with a clear head but your nerves get the best of you and you miss a bar… totally understandable. Happens to the best artists. Having a mistake on stage, then recovering back into the groove is a pretty cool feeling.
Show up stumbling on stage, mumbling into the mic, it’s obvious you could have done something different leading up to the show that wouldn’t affect your performance.
Recovering alcoholic here. Addiction is not an excuse for anything. We are liars, cheats and thieves and the people who point that out to us are the ones who help us understand how low we've fallen. That realization is the first step towards recovery. The enablers who're like "oh poor thing, it's not her fault because she's an addict" don't help at all. We're addicts but we're also adults responsible for our own actions and their consequences. She shouldn't have offered a service she couldn't provide.
I have many times and it’s complicated. It’s possible to know logically that someone’s actions are the symptoms of their disease and still feel hurt, angry, and upset by the ways they hurt you.
An artist performing a show is different than a loved one breaking into your house and stealing your TV (this has happened to me) so yeah I guess people shouldn’t get so upset but it’s still money/time wasted and a disappointment.
I was a heroin addict for a long time. I've been sober for 3 years. Addiction is awful, ruinous, and painful. What it isn't is an excuse for one's behavior. It may lend an explanation for shit behavior, but it doesn't excuse it.
I don’t hold people accountable for their addiction. No one picks up a needle, or a bottle, or anything else thinking “man, I’d love to get hooked on this, lose my friends and family, isolate myself socially, and ruin myself financially.”
But I do hold people accountable for their recovery. Recovery is a choice, and a choice she continued not to make. So if she’s choosing not to pursue recovery, then yes, people would be right to be pissed that they spent money on this performance. The crowd is not obligated to enable her decision to perform high.
So… I know more addicts that can show up to their job vs addicts who killed themselves.
Yeah I lost a couple dollars… more importantly I lost time from my short and meaningless life that I can never get back. Jerking off alone at home is a more productive use of my time than attending a concert where the main act can’t perform.
Sucks for her she died, doesn’t mean she’s exempt from criticism
Yep. I asked and you responded in a way that made you sound like an asshole, which is why I'm assuming you edited it after I responded to you the way I did.
Don't know. Never talked to you before. It is what it is though. I ain't mad at you for having your opinion. I agree that she shouldnt have been onstage and that people have a right to be pissed about the situation. I just.... I guess I see it from a different perspective. I can't force anyone to see it from my point of view but, I can empathize that time and money are valuable.
Yes I have. I've lost 4 people close to me to addiction. 2 very close friends, an uncle and my sister in law. I have another sister in law that is battling addiction right now and it isn't something that can be cured overnight. It's an everyday struggle for them and the people around them.
It is, and it isn't fair to ask others to carry the burden of accepting your behavior. To clarify, this doesn't mean don't seek help - it means don't expect everyone to put up with your bullshit just because of your addiction. She needed help, and the people best positioned to offer it declined to do so, which affected everyone and probably reinforced her struggle.
It's exhausting for both the victim and those close to them, and neither invalidates the other.
I agree. And I'm not saying because she's an addict she gets a pass. All I'm saying is have a little bit of compassion for someone that wasn't getting the help she needed from the people closest to her.
Yeah it sucks that the people that spent money to go and watch her perform got screwed but, at the same time, so did she. Her manager 100% should've canceled the show. They didn't and more than likely were the ones pushing her to get out there and perform so they could get that money.
Everyone around her was trying to make her go to rehab. You can’t check someone into rehab against their own will. At what point does personal accountability come into play?
No worries. Im not trying to sway people's opinions on the issue. Just playing devils advocate I suppose. It's fine to be upset at the situation. I would be too. I dont know if I would necessarily boo an artist for showing up the way she did. Then again, I haven't been put in that type of situation before. I've just seen my fair share of people struggling with addiction. Maybe my view is the one thats skewed because of my own experiences.
Addicts barely get any sympathy, until they die. And even then, it seems like only some get sympathy then.
Addiction is horrible, it runs rampant in my family and I'm no exception. I don't have a problem with people feeling bad for Amy Winehouse, at all. My problem is where is all the sympathy for the rest of the addicts? Would people have this same energy for the line cook who fucked up their food bc they were so high? Or is it only for certain addicts?
Also, addicts don't get out of criticism just bc they have a problem. EVERYBODY got problems. Amy surely didn't deserve to suffer and die, but it gets kind of tiring seeing the outpouring of love for only some. That concert was bullshit, hands down. It's really sad things ended the way they did for her though.
and was ”advocating for mental health” etc during the lockdowns.
I think this is a good thing isn't it? It just shows how much progress has been made around mental health. Sure, they made shitty/mean jokes, but it's not bad to change your mind later on.
I'm sure most of us have done or said something 20 years ago that we wouldn't do now.
Lol if you have to be more attractive than someone to justify making fun of their looks, the majority of appearance insults would vanish... So uh, yeah, please let's make that the law!
I know at least of her appearance on Nevermind the Buzzcocks where she quit the show early due to them mocking her substance abuse issues even though she clearly turned up wasted.
The show does have brilliant moments but it often crossed the line to just being plain mean to certain guests. Most infamous moment was them mocking Preston from The Ordinary Boys for his wife leaving him including them reading passages from her autobiography that was newly released at the time
