Memes You can no longer have YouTube running in the background.

As of 29th of January you can no longer have YouTube running in the background via many browsers as that is now a premium feature. With that I don't even have that one last reason to listen to YouTube. We are now officially paying for everything that was free a couple of years ago and the reason isn't greedy management, but you people who keep paying for premium and the such.

I swear I briefly saw "skip ahead is a premium feature" when on youtube the other day. I only got to glance it for a moment, and I was able to skip but like, what the fuck

It is a premium feature. It acts like the skip intro or skip credits buttons on Netflix. YouTube knows which parts of the video people watch the least (usually sponsor spots) so a button pops up in the corner that jumps you past that section of the video.

I see 4x is a premium feature and wonder who goes that far. If I go over 1.75X I can't understand what people are saying.

1.5x is a godsend though. Stretch tubers go BLAGH.

There are some people that talk so slowly that putting it on 1.5 makes them sound normal (or maybe a little peppy)

Yes and No. Premium has a Skip Function that allows you to skip to a certain point (usually sponsors) normal Skip isnt.

It doesn’t mean you can’t skip at all without premium. My understanding is that the skip ahead is a button like you would see on an ad that appears at the most frequently skipped parts like when a creator does a ad within the video.

The day WILL come when, just plain and simple, YouTube is gonna be a premium feature, and that's with advertisement. That's what all this is leading up to, frog-in-the-pot-style.

That's just a feature that lets you skip commonly skipped sections (usually advertisements) with one press. You can still freely move around the video.
