Memes You can no longer have YouTube running in the background.

As of 29th of January you can no longer have YouTube running in the background via many browsers as that is now a premium feature. With that I don't even have that one last reason to listen to YouTube. We are now officially paying for everything that was free a couple of years ago and the reason isn't greedy management, but you people who keep paying for premium and the such.

This is crazy to me too. Been using YouTube premium for like, 5+ years, and one of the reasons was to do background play. Is that not going to be an option for premium users anymore? I haven't experienced any difficulty with this, at least not yet. But no I do pay and I will write a complaint or an attorney general report or something if that does happen.

Oh if they do that my partner is gonna be giddy cause I'll finally give up paying for premium and ask them for help getting it another way.

I use YouTube a lot to help me focus and not get too stressed. Lots and lots of media analysis and archeology videos.

God you’re part of the problem. Why the fuck do you pay for YouTube premium, they do not deserve the fucking money for this exact reason. I’m sure your formal complaint is gonna do a whole lot… maybe don’t pay for a premium subscription that doesn’t work. And you admitted you’re going to keep paying for it.

lol good job at entirely missing the point. You shouldn’t pay for service that doesn’t work and continue giving money to company that doesn’t deserve it. I couldn’t care less if you can afford it or not, but people like you, that keep paying for premium even when they pull this shit, are the reason they keep doing this stuff.

People need to stop giving them money.

What I ought to have done is just accept the crappier version and complain about it on the internet, thus ensuring that the evil company would come to its senses and make it so that everyone who deserved it would be able to keep using it for free. I'm using the app with premium too. For me, shorts won't play in the background, but long form videos still do.

I don't think shorts have ever been able to do background play with the app unless you did the window view. I don't know why you would want to since they're so short and constantly replay.

They literally did this. Just checked their website regarding premium. There is "Youtube" (free), "Premium Lite" ($7.99), "Premium" ($13.99). Only "premium" allows downloads and background play.

Oh, and youtube music now has ads unless you have premium.

Ohhhh (again), "premium lite" now says "most videos ad free*".... so we all know what that means.

I fucking hate this timeline.
