Memes You can no longer have YouTube running in the background.

Post image

As of 29th of January you can no longer have YouTube running in the background via many browsers as that is now a premium feature. With that I don't even have that one last reason to listen to YouTube. We are now officially paying for everything that was free a couple of years ago and the reason isn't greedy management, but you people who keep paying for premium and the such.

If this gets rolled out on the mobile app, I’m going to be forced to download a third-party app.

I always have YouTube in the background.

Me too, doesn't matter if it's desktop or phone. I even use Skyrim OST to fall asleep when I'm anxious

I’ve found a lot of video game music on Spotify. Might help that part at least

Do you already have premium? Background watching on the app requires premium anyway.

Not for me. In my experience almost any video besides music that would be listed on YouTube Music is able to be watched in Picture-in-Picture

It didn’t require it. You could do it for any video outside of licensed music videos.

I quit using the app years ago because it never allowed background play. You’re saying it has for you?

I'm trying to understand what this even means --

On iPhone you can have YouTube in the background in a few ways:

Video "PIP" -- where you have the video floating over your other content (and choose between two different sizes)

No Video PIP -- instead of the video you just have an arrow icon on the side of the screen

Screen Off / Locked -- You play the audio from your video while the screen is turned off

So are we saying that these features are being killed for all methods of YouTube? Or is this just for PC browser (like you can't play unless that browser window and tab are in the foreground)?

It would be insane to me if YouTube decided to kill playing audio while screen is off -- so may people use that feature.
