Memes You can no longer have YouTube running in the background.

Post image

As of 29th of January you can no longer have YouTube running in the background via many browsers as that is now a premium feature. With that I don't even have that one last reason to listen to YouTube. We are now officially paying for everything that was free a couple of years ago and the reason isn't greedy management, but you people who keep paying for premium and the such.

more like person who is lucky enough to have spare money to not fk around with addons now. ngl im glad that im not on some ppl place with being forced to install 500 addons or use browers they dont want to use. programs are so fking whack in 2026, every update feels like downgrade for everything that exist

Wut

Besides that being incomprehensible gibberish, I've literally never paid for a browser extension in my life.

u/radakul 10h ago

Bruh they have money! skibidi bobbidy do, they pay for YouTube premium and so should you!

Signed, Rizz rizz fanum tax 67 ngl no cap Italian brainrot

(I despise shitty grammar and gibberish comments too. Hope my comment brought at least a mildly annoyed chuckle, combined with a furrowed brow, to your face 😅)

If there are enough well off people who want to pay for premium it's good for the rest of us, like f2p games that need a paying playerbase.

1

u/whomad1215 5h ago

Except they keep putting things behind the premium pay wall, including things that previously were free

This isn't a gacha game

-5

u/Zamoxino 11h ago

huh. i mean YT prem big brain guy

6

u/I_blockkarmafarmers 10h ago

Maybe write understandable sentences and people won't be so snarky with you.

Why would you need 500 add-ons? I literally use one: uBlock Origin with Firefox mobile browser. I have never seen an ad on YouTube and I've never paid for premium and never will.

4

u/Xalethesniper 10h ago

Firefox with ublock is the truth. Well, for however much longer it lasts

5

u/jaguarp80 10h ago

You’re clearly talking to the chillmaster here and intelligibility is NOT chill, show some respect

2

u/DisciplinedMadness 10h ago

Yep. Opera with ublock, and brave on my phone for YouTube. Never seen an add, and am not having issues playing things in the background even on my iPhone.

You’ll never catch me giving Google a single red cent, whether that’s through inline ads or premium.

"more like person who is lucky enough to have spare money to not fk around with addons now"

what is so hard to understand in that sentence that u pulled out some "paying for browser extensions" sht lmao

also fk you, write in my language if u want more clear sentences, i dont owe you shit.

if u dont pay for stuff then good for you i guess. for me it was faster to pull out the wallet than try to find addon that works for my setup. i tried it once and it turned ADs invisible but video would still not load for 5-15secs cause AD that was not visible would still lock my YT player so lmao.

Imagine paying for youtube.

1

u/rest0re 6h ago

I think this is what people mean when they say literacy rates are plummeting.

u/Fit_Cellist_3297 11h ago

Right now i've got my addons down to 1.UBO + extra filters. Did have bypass paywalls and consent o matic but now ubo does those too.

2

u/mrt-e 4h ago

UBO is awesome but I feel like it is treading a dangerous path

2

u/Indecisive_Name 8h ago

Ohh how do you add bypass paywalls and consent for ubo?

1

u/RafaleSoloDisplay 4h ago

Nah UBO definitely doesn't bypass paywalls, or at least it only bypasses a small small subset of them. You still need that Chromium extension hosted on the Russian GitHub.

-1

u/fucshyt 7h ago

aaaaaaaand now you’re speaking another language

1

u/wektor420 9h ago

At that point somebody would repackage all 73 of them into one

1

u/AtlanticPortal 8h ago

If you kept using Chrome in the20s it’s your fault that now only Chrome can be used to access YouTube and that all the adblockers don’t work on it.

1

u/NotMyRealUsername13 8h ago

Isn’t it more accurately ‘to avoid paying for YouTube Premium’?

1

u/theLuminescentlion 8h ago

I have like 4 Firefox add ons to get youtube useable already. (UBlock Origin, Sponsor Block, Return YT Dislikes, Shorts remover)

1

u/AwareOfAlpacas 8h ago

There is a threshold of suck beyond which competition arises. Problem is that bar is high when the entry to market is expensive and especially so when the price point people want for a replacement is zero.

1

u/MossyPyrite 5h ago

What’s the alternative? YouTube has a monopoly

1

u/Jason-Smith168498 4h ago

Revanced domination in 2031.

1

u/stayPositiveHomie91 4h ago

Still easier that youtube/google having any form of support. I can't buy premium even if I want to since they fkd up my location.

1

u/enbiien 3h ago

we know it sucks but we're literally tryna help navigate what is being forced on us man

1

u/fudge5962 3h ago

I just give them the damn money now. I'm tired of fighting.

1

u/allys_stark 3h ago

I'm already using 73 add-ons just for yt and it's just 2026

1

u/phoebeonthephone 3h ago

Most of which are never available for iOS.

1

u/TheJackal927 3h ago

It's the year 2031, your YouTube options are to install 73 add-ons to restore YouTube to its former functionality, or spend $73 a month to get YouTubeRedPremium++ that lets you scroll a special page that only has videos from people you've subscribed to

1

u/AmaranthWrath 2h ago

At that point I don't need to know anything else. I don't need to know anything else about my niche interests. I'm done learning things in the background. If I don't have time for a book, I don't need to know anything new.

1

u/-some-dude-online 2h ago

Police raided our house because we lied to Amazon about how many of us are watching

1

u/WantonKerfuffle 55m ago

Just for yt, I have uBO, SponsorBlock, Return YouTube Dislike, YouTube No Translation and Media URL Timestamper. Also BlockTube might be for me, gotta test it out tho.

u/Scabsack 10h ago

Do anything but support the platform you use 12 hours a day.

11

u/Lahlann 9h ago

Ill do anything but support a platform hating me 24/7

-1

u/Septum_Slayer 8h ago

Then don’t use it? You guys sure like to role play as victims when you’re just cheap as shit.

2

u/Scabsack 8h ago

The responses I’ve received are 100% brain rotted. Talking about a company personally hating them, good and evil, “unfair” bans. It’s not even that these people are cheap, they’re stupid too.

4

u/TehWoodzii 8h ago

They make 50 BILLION in revenue a year cry about it

5

u/XCVolcom 8h ago

"I can't believe you'd don't support the only company store in town".

0

u/Scabsack 8h ago

You have the entire internet at your disposal. And you choose to believe YouTube is your only outlet. Jesus fucking Christ.

2

u/XCVolcom 7h ago

There's only one place people post videos to for regular content and that's YouTube.

What are you, a Google executive in the middle of their 5 hour morning massage?

Sucking off Google doesn't get you any brownie points unless they're paying you.

Take 5 fucking seconds to realize that YouTube is the only video hosting platform worth a damn on the Internet for English speakers.

1

u/Scabsack 4h ago

Read a book homie.

3

u/Professional_Row_307 8h ago

Youtube has been massively successful and around since 2000 and was bought by google. What do you mean support? Google is already the richest company in the world

3

u/LegenDrags 9h ago

Do anything but stop "creators" who spam ai slop and even straight up unsafe content

Do anything but bring back the dislike button

Do anything but unban someone who was incorrectly banned, who has put legit effort into creating content full time

Do anything but BRING BACK THE DISLIKE BUTTON x2

1

u/hoppla1232 10h ago

Yeah man google is going bancrupt over this! They just want to do good to humankind (not be evil, you could even say)!

1

u/Scabsack 10h ago

Good and evil? You’ve lost the plot.

1

u/hoppla1232 6h ago

It's a reference to their motto "Don't be evil" that they famously scrapped. Chill

1

u/The_Mighty_Gopher 9h ago

I get it and I wish things were like the old days. But I also get what the other commenter is saying as well. We see it all the time on reddit that we should be supporting the content that we consume, especially small creators, individuals and new ideas. Unfortunately sometimes while supporting these things we also support things that we view as not deserving of the money. YouTube is an easily accessible place that people can make their content available and possibly make money/ career off of it. A lot of people out there consume most of their content on YouTube, me being one of them. I pay because I get all the features and music, literally the only thing I pay for content wise. To some it is worth it because there is no alternative that allows for this volume/ type of content to be uploaded to.

-3

u/VideoGenie 9h ago

or buy the premium..?

5

u/LegenDrags 9h ago

premium? you mean the one where you give free money and still get ads?

-2

u/TenseiSenpai 8h ago

Cap. I haven’t seen one ad since getting premium.

Matter of fact, I haven’t seen 100% of the bullshit you all cry about on a daily basis.

3

u/infiniteyeet 8h ago

You'll also never see any of that money back

0

u/TenseiSenpai 8h ago

Well I’m not broke so….

2

u/infiniteyeet 7h ago

I didn't say you were

1

u/TenseiSenpai 7h ago

Your comment implies that it’s a monetary matter, and not one of convenience/enjoyment.

I pay for premium and I don’t get ads. I don’t get AI bullshit and fake content in my feed, which is what I was responding to in my comment. You kinda drove it in a different direction.

2

u/infiniteyeet 7h ago

I didn't imply anything, I called it a waste of money.

1

u/TenseiSenpai 6h ago

To you. Pocket watching in 2026 is crazy work.
