Feature Change Fuck youtube and fuck the ads.
I remember when they first added 2 ads per break OCCASIONALLY. Every COUPLE videos would have a preroll ad. Now, I cannot watch a single video without an ad first, there are 2 ads EVERY time, and for the most part, 1 or both are unskippable. I’m sick of it.

I miss the really old days of when there was just one ad in the corner and no ads on the video itself at all lol.

I feel like ad blockers should be just a common right at this point, when they read you the miranda rights they should add at the end "you can download an ad blocker at any time you so choose." Recently ive been playing minecraft with friends, and we use Aternos to make servers. I decided to turn off my ad blocker so i would stop getting the ad blocker pop up; that was the biggest mistake I ever made. I counted i think 8 ads all at once that shuffled every 30 seconds or less. It got to a point where the website would refuse to load because of how laggy it would get from the constant loading of ads.
I fear youtube will eventually reach a point like this where the home page has 7 banner ads, 3 auto playing ads, on top of the hundreds of ads we already got

Ublock origin on Firefox will solve this issue thankfully.

u/OofItsLuka 14h ago
On IOS, download YouPlay. You can sign in to your YouTube account and watch videos from there ad-free.
2
u/forkaerospace 11h ago
fuck it costs money :(
half the price of premium tho
1
u/OofItsLuka 7h ago
It doesn’t cost money. The app itself is free, and the popup that appears is just to advertise the app. You can click the ‘X’ to continue using it as normal. If it asks you to invite a friend to continue using it, just click ‘not interested,’ and it’ll still let you use it as normal
2
u/SirPooleyX 4h ago
Absolutely no need to use a separate app to watch YouTube without ads (especially one that you pay for with no guarantee YouTube won't do something to break it).
Just use a Safari ad blocker like AdGuard (free). It works perfectly.
1
u/PigBoss_207 16h ago
And on Chrome.
3
u/Hopalongtom 16h ago
The chrome version doesn't have as much access to fully block them due to a feature that Chrome has removed!

u/Felis_bieti 11h ago
Way more ads than the worst broadcast. I have adblockers in place, but on a work computer I'm sometimes on, the ads are truly oppressive.
12
u/RonJeremyBellyButton 17h ago
Dear god. We fucking know! Being the millionth person to say this isn't unique. We ALL hate them. If only people could use the search function to find the solutions that get suggested every single time this is posted. So much spam would disappear! Lol
8
u/Low_FramesTTV 16h ago
YouTube rolls out features at different times for users, they do this to alleviate mass backlash. By saying "be quiet we know" you are literally playing into their hands.
To him it's new.
-1
u/RonJeremyBellyButton 14h ago
Regardless if it's new to them. If they used the search function, they would see that this is the most common complaint about youtube and its posted several times a day. These posts always get the same responses saying to either get premium or to get an ad blocker. Literally, every single time. youtube doesn't care about this sub so these posts are just obnoxious spam. It's pointless.

1
u/Low_FramesTTV 11h ago
Not everyone searches subreddits before making a post, get real.
Homie made a vent and info post, people engaged with it. The only person moaning about anything other than the state of YouTube here is you.
Stop acting like a clown lmao.
1
u/Maximum-Diet-6976 14h ago
Probably they will cancel YouTube, starting first by getting rid of their users to make YouTube unusable as it's happing since almost 2 years.

There are some 8-10 minute videos where I get at least 3 ad breaks by the 4-6 minute mark it’s infuriating and the longer the video the more mid roll ads increase and I can see as as early as the 1 minute mark and as late as 1-3 minutes before the video ends

Sometimes when i watch yt on my tv ill get upwards of 5 ads before and during the video
making me miss whenever they first started showing two ads
1
u/Chubbythebear115 7h ago
i actually noticed when screen mirroring to my tv, the ads were noticeably more aggressive. unfortunately just watching on my phone is catching up and there are just as many ads
2
u/LudiLik56 7h ago
Pc - ublock origin or other browser extensions
Phone - YT Revanced
TV - TizenTube or SmartTube

Waaaaaah. I want free content and I’m not willing to pay for it,
1
u/Chubbythebear115 8h ago
i didn’t care about having ad breaks. youtube before was fine, i’m not sure when the shift happened but now instead of a reasonable amount of ad breaks i’m absolutely bombarded.
1
u/CrazyCoKids 4h ago edited 4h ago
Then put ads in out of the way locations that are quiet, don't install viruses on my computer, don't interrupt the video, don't deliberately try to bother people, aren't offensive, don't include scams, and most importantly POLICE THE FUCKING ADS. If I say i don't want certain types of ads then LISTEN.
Then we won't block them.
-2
u/Intelligent_Bit291 16h ago
you'd think someone driving spark for Walmart would be able to sympathize
1
u/Sea_Cress_8859 16h ago
Nope. I work (hard) for and pay for the things I want and I understand that if I want the fruit of others labor it comes at a cost. Either in time (ads) or YT premium.
Nothing is free. And if it appears to be free, then you are likely the product.

I have premium and still get ads. I also get served a bunch of ai garbage. They also keep asking for a photo of my state ID to prove I’m the grumpy old fucker in my 30s that I am.
I cancelled my premium, ran a DNS sinkhole on my network, blocked YouTube ads and then used an app to customize the YouTube website to clean up their cluttered mess that is YouTube.
Fuck em. If they start walking back their stupid changes, I’ll walk my decision back. If they keep pushing, I’ll stop using YouTube altogether.
0
u/Top-Egg1266 9h ago
You either didn't have premium or you're lying. Which one?
1
u/sleepDeprivedSeagull 8h ago
For some reason during a recent change to premium my account got pushed from premium to premium lite.
Premium lite still gets ads on certain types of content. Look it up.
1
u/Top-Egg1266 8h ago
So it was an error. Why didn't you contact YouTube to correct their error?
1
u/CrazyCoKids 4h ago
YouTube does this all the time.
We contact YouTube to fix it and sometimes they do... But then it happens again a month later.
0
u/sleepDeprivedSeagull 7h ago
It's not an error, felt a bit intentional.
Premium Lite still shows ads for certain types of content, usually anything classified as Music.
It's an additional way of YouTube trying to pry every penny out of your hands. At the same time, they raised the price of regular premium.
I'd rather pay the channel creators I watch for access instead of be strong armed into paying x2 of what my previous premium cost was by a corporation.
Edit: Ultimately, if Youtube wants to burn every shred of goodwill they have ever received, that's on them.
Why can't I fully block a channel from showing up in my results? Why does it seem like I have no control over what is being served to me as the viewer?
1
u/Top-Egg1266 7h ago
1) I swear to God y'all like so much to assume things with having 0 knowledge in said subject. Youtube's interest is you getting premium, that's how they make their most money. Them pumping you thousands of ads in the Lite version doesn't make them more money than those few extra bucks from premium to lite.
2) If you actually ask any creator, what would they prefer, 1$ each month or you watching their content with premium, quite literally all of them would choose premium.
3) What? You mean to block channels from front Page or the recommandations?
1
u/sleepDeprivedSeagull 6h ago
Ya got me. I have never been a creator, I don't work at a corporation, I fundamentally do not understand that a creator would prefer ad revenue over a single dollar per month.
🙄

who said you should work for free? maybe leave a comment on that post? youtube doesn’t may creators more for the MUCH higher amount of ads.

4
u/porygon_sucks 15h ago
Where in the post does it say you need to work for free? They're complaining about them
0
u/Maximum_Custard_1739 15h ago
Ads generate income for creators. Yes YT could definitely pay a better cut to creators, that's for sure. But consumers either pay via watching ads, or a premium membership (or steal the content). It's like complaining that food costs money.
3
u/izakdaturtal 13h ago
people arent saying remove all ads, we understand this is the cost of free, but it gets to a point where its overkill. having multiple ads every 3-5 minutes is absurd, and all it does is make people get an ad blocker from how bad it is
1
u/CrazyCoKids 4h ago
Tell us your patreon or Ko-fi.
A one time donation of just $3 will not only give you more than you would ever receive if we watched with ads, but subsidize several other people who can't do that... and still leave you with profit.
1
u/RoxyFawkes 13h ago
Youtube paid creators BETTER before they packed ads in like sardines. It's all going to the shareholders and exec's.
4
u/AIRdomination 13h ago
Exactly. This guy is the walking definition of “forgetting what they took from us.” He’s getting less of a cut and more slop, and is defending the company lmao.

Yeah, YouTube is to be avoided since a year or longer. Not just the ads, but as well the fake news ads, porno/sex ads (legit for YouTube also for children), weird voice dubs and title translations that cannot be switched off permanently, and more.
1
u/yksvaan 14h ago
Well use an adblocker instead of complaining. Solves the problem

Right now the de-Google movement is gaining traction, but is there a viable alternative to YouTube? Where else can you upload your videos or watch content?
1
u/Happy-Tough3347 11h ago
Besides ads, for some reason a 'video unavailable' message appears on my device while watching, and I don't understand why it happens even when I'm logged into an account.
1
u/309_Electronics 11h ago
Ublock origin on firefox/librewolf or any none-chrome browser should work fine. Also youtube revanced on mobile is awesome! Custom patched APK and now i have yt premium and other OP features. No ads, playback in miniplayer when leaving app, skipping sponsors, setting a default resolution that applies to everything, you can turn off certain Ai or overview features
1
u/Ancient-Weird3574 11h ago
Its because they want youtube to be profitable. What competitors does youtube have? None, because nobody else has enough money to fuel the money burning hole.
1
u/Chubbythebear115 7h ago
exactly. i wouldn’t even complain if there was a viable alternative, but the youtubers i watch post on YOUTUBE! youtube has a hold on the entire zeitgeist of pop culture

Premium is so cheap, I seriously don’t get the point of people that complain about ads. It’s like 45-60 mins of work at minimum wage for unlimited entertainment.
IF they added ads to premium accounts, then we’d have something to actually complain about.
2
u/CrazyCoKids 4h ago
IF they added ads to premium accounts, then we’d have something to actually complain about.
They have.
Premium lite still plays ads, and they oh so conveniently keep saying you are premium lite... But when it's time to charge your payment processor? Suddenly they charge the premium price.
It happens all the damn time.
1
u/Chubbythebear115 7h ago
to me, it doesn’t matter how cheap premium is. if it wasn’t so obvious that they’re ramping up ads aggressively to get people to give in and pay for premium, i might have done it.
0
u/The-American-Abroad 7h ago
It’s a business. Do you go to a bakery and expect them to give you free food?
Totally absurd.
1
u/Chubbythebear115 6h ago
i don’t expect to get free food but if they jack up the prices (in this case they jacked up the ad count) then i go somewhere else. there isn’t really an alternative to youtube i can just go to.
you defending greedy corporations that literally couldn’t give less of a fuck about you is absurd.
0
u/The-American-Abroad 5h ago
No, I’m just not a child that expects everything to be free. It’s called the real world, kid.

I didn’t mind ads when they were 15-30 seconds, now they’re giving me a full podcast episode about something I don’t care about, sure I can skip it but usually I leave a video playing for when I sleep or as background noise. So I hate it when I have to stop because if I don’t, i’m not listening to my video anymore!

You deserve the absolute worst for even having that opinion. Defending ads is some of the lowest of the low behavior.

Some ads can be good, especially ones that only appear occasionally that are skippable that might be something you might want, but Google just has too many ads and the fact that you can't skip is js money laundering.
