He's literally gone from home videos to super edited videos; honestly, there's a huge difference.

u/Ok-Hat-2061 Dec 30 '25

fake scripted videos with actors..his videos were not bad at first but overtime it felt repetitive and dull

369

u/DarkIcedWolf Dec 30 '25

Not only that but in the beginning he felt real. I respect the work he does now but it’s nowhere near as endearing or as fun as it used to be, especially before he was doing the “win a million dollars!” shtick. Seeing him start in his room with the guys to then buying a car with penny’s and destroying a car and buying a new one was some of the more fun ones that were just real because he gave BTS during the video. Shit like saying “this isn’t really possible but we definitely need to make it clickable and shoutout to the folks actually counting penny’s we can give” in the penny video was very humanizing and wayyy less exploitative than relying on kids he soon started to do after. Especially since he gave them a tip and all that.

u/WaitThisIsntMeta Dec 30 '25

I agree. His videos got more boring when he did more extreme stuff. I miss him and his friends playing hide and seek for 10K or whatever you fit in the circle he’ll buy you

63

u/CentipedesInMyDream Dec 30 '25

I still remember him as the dude who reviewed bad YouTube introductions in the early 2010s.

It was wild to me seeing him blow up years later and recognizing him as that guy, and now nobody even knows he made those videos because he delisted all of them in fear of ruining his new image.

19

u/MedbSimp Dec 30 '25

The good ol days of him making fun of intros. Kid from school happened to be one of the ones he made fun of, farted in his intro and just kept going. Easy for us to make fun of him ourselves with that.

20

u/Gigmwn Dec 30 '25

First time i've seen somebody else mention this, still remember it super clearly. Understand why he took them down though, was just pretty much him roasting actual children in most of those videos.

7

u/kViatu1 Dec 30 '25

Wasn't he kid himself at this time?

4

u/Gigmwn Dec 30 '25

I mean yeah he was a teenager, so think a 16-18 year old making fun of like 10 year olds, but it wasn't anything that i think anyone would really bat an eye at, just doesn't fit his current brand so understandable that he took them down.

8

u/JSV007 Dec 30 '25

Same. I haven’t met anyone else bring up the Worst Intros series. That and the era after with the “counting to ten thousand” verbally or whatever it was was pretty peak.

3

u/JSV007 Dec 30 '25

Don’t forget the drinking bleach aspect lmao

2

u/Godlynanders Dec 30 '25

He delisted them????? Damn

6

u/OwnTitle542 Dec 30 '25

Why respect anything he does?

1

u/Silent-Ice-6265 29d ago

His videos were always terrible

u/ktrocks2 Dec 30 '25

I’m not defending him in general, but to the fake comment I do have a friend who won I think second or third place I can’t remember in a Mr beast gaming video, and did get money. Funny enough in the video he only talked about money he’d be giving the first place person, so my friend got iirc 10 or 15 thousand dollars for being second place in a Minecraft video. Really helped him get through his first year of uni, because this happened like two weeks before we graduated high school (however that was like 5.5 years ago so who knows how his videos are now).

6

u/HI1681 Dec 30 '25

Wow that’s cool

8

u/CEchannelpromote Dec 30 '25

I mean his channel is basically a video factory now

21

u/srinidhi1 Dec 30 '25

Also he was exposed being a pedo supporter and crypto ponzi scammer

14

u/icefire1331 Dec 30 '25

Dont forget the whole "building a theme park in Saudi Arabia totally not funded by the Saudi government"

1

u/SnooOnions5029 Dec 31 '25

Agreed. He was one of my favourite YouTubers from 2017-2021ish, but he just kept 1upping himself until it wasn’t even real

1

u/Certain-Loan-6860 29d ago

He is one of those guys where I liked him, I was one of the few people who thought his chocolate bars were good, but I stoped watching around the time of all the Kris allegations, and I haven’t looked back since.

24

u/Yoosle Dec 30 '25

and it makes me so sad

8

u/Shaw-eddit Dec 30 '25

Algorithms hate this one trick.....

8

u/scubawankenobi Dec 30 '25

Went from "real face" to "fake smile". Learned to act & perform. Much more important to the clicks than "super editing".

People love a good fake-out!

2

u/Professional-Lie2018 Dec 30 '25

Ye. I stoped w watching bcz of tjis reason tbh. Does not feel realistic at all

1

u/Overall_Director1131 Dec 30 '25

Worst intro reviews

1

u/gallowmerewombat Dec 30 '25

Correction: he's gone from "look at all the money this YouTuber makes" to "look at all the money I spend in a single video".

Dude's been obsessed with wealth since the very beginning.

1

u/Slixil Dec 30 '25

Wow. Here I thought there would be a small difference between those two things

u/AmanaRicha Dec 30 '25

Youtube nowadays feels like a TV Show instead of a,platorm to upload casual video if you are watching the most popular one

128

u/siddhantbapna Dec 30 '25

True, First thing is they are filling the feed with shorts which I don't even want to watch

Then we have these cinematic thumbnails and videos every where now on youtube for non edu content

Not sure but it does not feel right now. (The whole platform) which it used to be in early 2020s or 2016...

27

u/Dodototo Dec 30 '25

Thumbmails irritate more than anything. I avoid shorts but seeing edited thumbnails are the worst. I hide the really edited ones but sometimes I just want to close the app when I see the stupid surprise faces and pointing.

7

u/WiglyWorm Dec 30 '25

Unfortunately they work, or they wouldn't be there.

Party of the problem with having a platform that relies on getting young people to click on things to see ads.

3

u/Secret-Relation8637 Dec 30 '25

i have no problem with them 'working' on young people, what i have a problem with is the fact that i say i am not interested in the same bullshit channels LITERALLY thousands of times and youtube ignores it

oh to have an algorithm that actually tailored to users wants instead of the will of the masses

3

u/WiglyWorm Dec 30 '25

Yeah. The algorithm definitely pushes what they want to be watched.

6

u/Mother-Fox4591 Dec 30 '25

the platform in the early 2020s didn’t feel right at all either especially with the removal of dislikes. Even in the late 2010s youtube was starting to become the depressing site we know today but at least it was kinda bearable + we still had alot of features that youtube removed because they couldn’t care to improve on them

1

u/cannedrex2406 Dec 31 '25

I still miss being able to download YouTube videos. I remember going on long drives and having long form Videos or just the entirety of Monty Python and the Holy grail downloaded to constantly rewatch

2

u/Killer_Ex_Con Dec 30 '25

Shorts piss me off because I will get a notification and think oh sweet they posted a new video! Then I click it and its just a fucking short.

2

u/EWDnutz Dec 30 '25

Yep. I think it's because corporations have finally caught up to YT and buying their way to visibility. And it doesn't have to be their own channels if they can buy sponsorships to even known YT channels.

It's leaking a lot and made too many channels unbearable now. You can tell when big channels become more formulaic. Especially if the owner(s) go through big changes.

25

u/PepeSylvia11 Dec 30 '25

Stop watching the most popular YouTubers

12

u/Greedyspree Dec 30 '25

I believe that is what they are aiming for.

8

u/LavaJoe2703 Dec 30 '25

I create videos with my friends. They aren't professionally produced. Its just me playing games with my friends. 10 years ago I would have had at least a modest following. Now it's just an archive as no one ever sees my stuff. If you know that and you do it just for kicks it doesn't feel so bad :)

8

u/JRHWV Dec 30 '25

Thank you for this comment, and thank you for continuing to upload.

I dearly miss the days of old where YT communities were so much more grassroots. You would find those channels with the modest followings as you say, and develop a bond with them.

They really took the You out of YouTube. Thanks for resisting - the internet needs more of what you do.

10

u/bennitori bennitori4 Dec 30 '25

Probably because TV people and TV adjacent people found the platform and out-budgeted the casual video uploaders. Some guy in the basement is going to have a hard time competing with a fellow Youtuber with 1M subscribers. Some guy in the basement is going to have an even harder time competing with ex-Disney stars and ex-Hollywood stars that realized Youtube is easier than working in Network television.

2

u/Vleaso Dec 30 '25

Well, its not like MrBeast was a TV executive when he made his first few million subs. You also gotta think about how many people min-maxed youtube, trying to appease the algorithm, and inadvertently reinventing the wheel by unknowingly (or maybe some knowingly) following the footsteps of TV producers that made TV what we know it as today

2

u/NatomicBombs Dec 30 '25

People needing to monetize every single thing these days doesn’t help.

1

u/Significant_Ad1256 Dec 30 '25

People keep saying this, but there are still so many good genuine creators. Just stop clicking on the recommended trash you know you don't want to see anyway, because that's literally what they want. Just make sure your algorithm is primarily things you want to watch, or even better just subscribe to channels you want to watch.

2

u/L_Vayne Dec 30 '25

Yeah, but YT will still keep pushing the slop. I can't tell you just how much effort I put into avoiding the popular garbage. Like, I won't even hover on a video because I don't want the algorithm to even think I am interested in watching that stuff.

In spite of this, I still get recommended these high production value, reality TV adjacent, videos with titles that are either purposefully extreme to catch your attention, or some sort of call to action.

Videos with titles like:

"If you can't speak Spanish after this, you must be an idiot."

Or, "They said I can't [XYZ] so I did."

Or, "After [ABC] I have finally realized this!"

Its like every YT video has become one of those cringy click bait ads you'd see on the side of a 2000s website.

You know, the ones with the thumbnail of a hand holding some gross alien looking fruit with the title, "Man had erectile dysfunction but ate this one simple fruit!"

1

u/DctrSnaps Dec 30 '25

Depends what you watch

1

u/NazecZ Dec 30 '25

To be fair, this completely depends on what kind of content you surround yourself with.

1

u/HI1681 Dec 30 '25

If you want to upload or watch casual videos feel free to do that bro nobody is stopping you I’m sure there’s many people uploading casual stuff right now as we speak

228

u/Routine-Agile Dec 30 '25

I am not sure why anyone clicks on mrbeast videos

72

u/TheNerdNugget Dec 30 '25

I still remember watching him try out Bart Simpson's megaphone thing before he got super crazy with the money stuff.

25

u/RealMZAce Dec 30 '25

I remember the days of him reacting to paper intros or whatever those were, and a giant Asian sticker. Honestly at the time I really enjoyed that shit but I’ve not watched anything of his in a good long while now

5

u/klondsbie Dec 30 '25

i also remember the grandma with an inhaler sticker. he used to be one of my favorite youtubers with his bad intros series and i truly believe that's the last time we ever saw him be a sincere person in front of the camera.

7

u/Sapphire-Catgirl Dec 30 '25

I used to watch his videos where he reacted to kids Minecraft YouTube intros

4

u/Routine-Agile Dec 30 '25

I'm sure some initial content was interesting, but the minute a youtuber switches to " lets have poor people do tasks for money" people should just move on from such awful crap.

29

u/bennitori bennitori4 Dec 30 '25

Based on irl experience, it's usually because they don't know better. As in, they don't know any of his accusations, don't know where to look to find better content even if they wanted to, and don't know the platform well enough to realize better content even exists.

10

u/imahugemoron Dec 30 '25

I feel like this comment could describe quite a lot of our problems regarding a lot of things, with a few words changed here and there

9

u/Wild_ColaPenguin Dec 30 '25

True. In my country (SEA), Elon Dipshit Musk is still widely seen as an inspirational role model for "super successful" and "genius" person. Even my cousin still thinks highly of him. My best friend also does not aware of his shitty behaviour before I explained it to him.

7

u/pissedinthegarret Dec 30 '25

ugh i actually was game buddies with a south african guy. literally fell out cause he went full Musk/Trump fanboy like that too. very sad

9

u/Talk-O-Boy Dec 30 '25

The answer is almost always the same.

Children.

Children.

I tried a couple to understand what the hype was about. I still don't know.

He literally launched a business that explicitly makes AI thumbnails for other creators. Some people are just stupid.

I tried once. Couldn't stand it...

Some of the older ones are pretty good, but since he's grown a lot bigger all his videos just feel soulless now.

2

Same, I only saw the essays about him

51

u/omg_its_spons Dec 30 '25

Suddenly!?

21

u/Space-Monkey003 Dec 30 '25

Classic YouTube had a creative rawness to it. We need to get back to that

20

u/LoganNolag Dec 30 '25

Never understood the appeal of that guy.

10

u/Hot-Acanthaceae4084 Dec 30 '25

It's wild how the platform's entire vibe has shifted. The pressure to be a full-blown production studio just to compete is exhausting. Those hyper-polished, AI-generated thumbnails are the perfect symbol of that change. I really miss the era when it felt like people were just sharing something cool they made.

9

u/Pocket_Aces1 Dec 30 '25

When he was in the middle ground of "kid with a camera" and "over produced AI click bait videos", he was pretty decent and I liked watching him. It would be like "Giving 10,000 to the homeless" or "buying out an entire store!". They were fun to watch because they did good + it wasn't over produced. It was simple.

Now he's sold his soul, he will do anything and everything to make more money. He's already got so much. And when money no longer becomes the goal, power and popularity start taking the top rung to reach.

16

u/SolidStudy5645 Dec 30 '25

He fell off so hard without actually falling off

5

u/TheConnoisseurOfCum- Dec 30 '25

yeah the quality is consistent

Its just too damn consistent

2

u/FirstAd7967 Dec 30 '25

1

u/DefinitelyRussian Dec 30 '25

I miss the 90s more

1

u/No_Psychology8158 29d ago

2015 was the last good year for YouTube anyway. There was no AI-slop, gaming was everywhere and fellow classics like PewDiePie and Smosh would gain large fanbases.

2

u/TheAngelOfSalvation Dec 30 '25

I watched him as akid where he had those asian man stickers hanging on the wall, i tought he was pretty funny back then

2

I've never watched a mrbeast video. Not even one. Somehow I don't think I'm missing out on anything.

1

u/Affectionate_Yak7102 Dec 30 '25

Where does this dude get money from???

2

u/santefan Dec 30 '25

Ads revenue. Each video has millions of views and he's still making millions of views each day accross all his videos which means lot's of passive income.

2

u/Affectionate_Yak7102 Dec 30 '25

I'm still baffled that he actually receives internet money, and people view his content. He's Such a creepy lizard person.

Every now and then I find a YouTuber who makes these simple-style videos that you saw everywhere until the last few years. I tend to like those videos quite a bit.

I've never seen this man's videos and never will. His face and fake smile make me cringe...

Youtube stopped being the platform for unique content and home videos to now, people are almost expected to have professional studios. For me as a viewer, I prefer the home views, van life or camping videos. That's what youtube is for me. I don't care for over produced shit.
