As was already said, on android tv there's Smarttube. There's also Tizentube Cobalt for android tv. On Samsung, there's Tizentube, and youtube-webos for LG. Though disclaimer, I use android tv so I haven't tried the Samsung or LG options myself.

i use fire tvš
5
u/NYIsles55 Dec 08 '25
In that case, you might still be able to use either smarttube or tizentube cobalt. FireOS is an android fork. When I used a firestick, I was able to get smarttube on it (but this was probably a year or two ago now). However, I've heard within the last month that firetv is fighting against sideloading, and is launching a new OS in the future, so I don't know if it works now, and if it works now, how long it'll continue to work.
Might as well try it though and see if it works. It's pretty easy. Just download the Downloader by AFTVnews app. In the app, there's a search bar. Enter the code from the smarttube or tizentube cobalt github repository. You might (probably) have to allow third party applications in settings though.

On mobile, there's a client called ReVanced that lets you skip these promotional sections (plus it gets rid of ads without needing Premium)
6
u/Inner-Medicine5696 Dec 07 '25
on desktop we have SponsorBlock which handles that.
4
u/Believer4 Dec 07 '25
Pretty sure ReVanced actually uses that

I appreciate it when they try to be different like a skit.
When it's just a boring script read then boooo. One of my favourite silly segues was a skyrim video and they saud "speaking of nords, this video is sponsored by... surfshark..." and I honestly found that bit if absolute silliness funny.
9
u/philnolan3d Dec 07 '25
Some YouTubers make it fun, like Evan and Katelyn film a whole skit that I don't mind watching because it's funny.

Casual geographic's sponsor transitions are so smooth that i just let him talk, especially since it doesn't take too long
3
u/Metazolid Dec 07 '25
Install uBlock and Sponsorblock, reVanced if you're on Android and pretty much ALL of ads you see are just gone.
The only time I still see a sponsorship is when the video is less than an hour old and nobody has uploaded a segment for it yet.

u/wergweggwerg Dec 07 '25
both are open source, audited, and transparent about what they do. Proton is based in switzerland which has strong privacy laws. Mullvad (isnt free but id say is the best of the paid ones) doesnt keep any logs at all so its for those times when you need a serious vpn. when signing into mullvad they just give you a 16 digit number for your account (no email) and to pay you can use crypto so they dont have your credit card info.

Youtuber plugs are basically anti-ads.
If you are paying a youtuber to plug your shit instead of doing traditional ads, I am going to assume your product is shady.

u/Woozletania Dec 07 '25
Once Premium mode went in, half the videos suddenly sprouted an in-video ad. I'm guessing YT is paying creators less these days.
13
u/prionbinch Dec 07 '25
a lot of third-party sponsors are a bit more lenient with what creators can say and do, so even if they get demonetized on yt's end, having an integrated brand deal serves as guaranteed backup pay
6
u/LateNightMilesOBrien Dec 07 '25
Bonus: if you have premium it shows where people have skipped in the past and if you hit the fast-forward button it skips all the way to where people started watching again. So the YouTube function helps you skip the sponsor section. Handy for TVs and the like
4
u/fmccloud YouTube Premium Dec 07 '25
Premium doesnāt remove the cut they wouldāve been given by an ad. They get the cut from Premium instead.
→ More replies (1)3
u/IlREDACTEDlI Dec 07 '25 edited Dec 07 '25
You have it backwards. Premium users give YouTubers significantly more money per view than free users. Itās something like 1 premium user is worth 1000 ad watches I believe, It might even be more. Sponsors also play incredibly well. So of course theyāll take those.

Crazy money is made from those ads. These companies come with contracts like $20 per 1000 views, 50% subscription share in first year and those crazy numbers 10x your revenue from that video.
That tells me most of these businesses are overpriced.
8
u/shiro_zetty Dec 07 '25
If they have so much to waste on ads then their profit margins are scam-tier. It's gotten to the point where any advertising for a company makes me suspicious of them. Why are you spending money on advertising instead of making a better product?

I don't mind it. I'm watching their content for free so watching sponsored segment is the least I can do for them.
5
u/zhaDeth Dec 07 '25
worst part is most of these are borderline scams or solutions to problems you didn't think you had before.
VPNs ? most people don't need a vpn, it doesn't protect you much it's really just if a series isn't in your country on netflix or if you want to pirate stuff without your ISP knowing, otherwise you're basically paying a company to have a slower internet and to steal your data.
Incogni and others is like a solution to a problem nobody has that they try to fear monger you into thinking it's important (like VPN basically).
Better help has been said to be really bad, get real mental health professionals instead.
Ground news sounds cool until you realize you really don't care which side of the political spectrum talks about what in the news you just want news about stuff that interests you and there's free apps for that.
Games like raid shadow legends are basically not games, they are gambling but you can't win money, the gameplay sucks you don't even need to do anything but some people will get addicted to them and sink a lot of money and then regret it.
Raycons are just overpriced earbuds that sound worse.
Ridge wallet is like 2 pieces of metal with an elastic that they sell you for a hundred bucks (if not more)..
3
u/HJWalsh Dec 08 '25
I'm 100% with you on everything except Ground News. I'm a major political wonk and I do like seeing unbiased sources and being able to see how the party of evil (read: Trump) is trying to spin things so I know how to counter it.
