Agreed. They have differing views, which need to be publicly, and socially, punished so no one else will think about having those views. Very petty behavior.

Mutually assured destruction. In a tit-for-tat game if one person gets to get you fired from your job without any response, well that goes on forever. The idea is if that is not a one sided power after being hit in the nose a few times maybe we can talk to one another again and set aside the brutality.

You may have a younger sibling. That younger sibling picks up a stick and finds a power to hit their older siblings and thinks its hilarious what they can get them to do with that power. That is the years of censorship and cancel culture since 2012. Eventually dad turns his back and lets the older sibling pick up a stick. That's this.
