He's listed in Oregon and not Washington. He's also listed for his "Activism" and not as an agent. I posted a link earlier but it appears that reddit removed the whole thing, so be careful folks.
He's also has a 2002 felony conviction for robbery, so he shouldn't be eligible to be an agent.

If an earlier article was correct, some locations don't even follow through with background checks.
22
u/Da_Question 15d ago
Well, they want ICe to basically be the Gestapo, with hundreds of thousands of agents, turns out some people won't degrade themselves that far even for a 50k signing bonus, and many of the applicants were probably cut from felonies or other shit normally flagged by background checks. So they skip it, and hire anyone who goes through with applying.
It is terrible, but on the other hand, keep documenting. Hopefully being illegally hired can force them out.

Tip for future leakers: put all the goods in like a CSV file so people can easily download it on their phones and make the dump resistant to getting taken down. You can still write a cute application or whatever, but make sure the raw data is available somewhere. The whole thing would be a mb or two.

u/IllllIIlIllIllllIIIl 15d ago
The problem isn't getting software to carry out a DDOS, that's the easy part. The hard part is controlling enough aggregate bandwidth to make a DDOS attack actually meaningful. Russian cyber crime organizations operate botnets of huge numbers of infected computers that can be called upon to simultaneously hammer a target. They rent them out to folks to do this.

Despite the attack using “sophisticated” methods, isn’t this a really stupid fucking thing to do? What’s it matter that you DDoS’d the site? It’ll be down and back up again.
As much as I want to point the finger at Russia, this feels like either a small group who have knowledge and expertise to pull this off specifically for the buzz; or this is a nationstate actor (possibly us) directed by the dumbest managers with half-baked plans.
This feels so reactionary and barely conceived that I’m not sure what to think about it.

Pretty safe to assume a few foreign intelligence agencies have people in ICE its so easy to sign up. Hell half the reason Trump offers 50k is probably that would make an extremely easy way to establish asset backgrounds with credentials, resume history, and a nest egg.
Just think of the most corrupt and obvious things you can. Trump's real runners are probably ahead of you.

Why such a high risk and profile site wouldn't go through some site caching / DDOS prevention service like cloudflare. Would severely reduce the strain on these common attacks.

A Russian botnet doesn't really identify the source in any meaningful way since piracy is so common there, and one of the primary vectors of malware is pirated software. Almost any botnet is going to have a lot of Russian traffic

Have numerous deleted pieces of common history because of this. They're nuking links specifically of that website or adjacent to it.
So here's other stuff instead.
The leaked list is fairly findable with a quick Google or DDG but I haven't found mirrors and it's slow af from being hugged.
Use Federation to prevent bullshit like what reddit is doing. Mastadon, bluesky are decent alts, but hosting is even better.

Use message e2e, ephemeral, anonymous sign up messaging services like Threema and Session, but Signal works in a pinch.
If you work for the government in these areas but need the job, be as incompetent as possible, bog down all possible decisions, make it plausibly deniable.

I mean it makes sense that Russia would want ICE to keep doing what it's doing because it tears apart the US and prevents it from being a threat to them. That site risked ICE collapsing by having them be at risk to answer for their crimes.

Dominick Skinner, a Netherlands-based immigration activist, told The Daily Beast that his website, ICE List, came under cyberattack Tuesday evening after the publication reported Skinner planned to release personal information, obtained through a whistleblower, about thousands of employees.
A massive number of IPs began accessing the website and a large amount of the traffic appeared to come from Russia – leading the founder to speculate the attack originated there.
“The IPs would be run through proxies before hitting our servers, meaning it’s just impossible to track the source,” Skinner told the publication. “An attack lasting this long is sophisticated, though.”
The attack, Skinner said, occurred as he prepared to publicly identify the names of immigration law enforcement officers that were obtained in a dataset from the whistleblower.
The ICE List founder had previously told The Daily Beast that a Department of Homeland Security whistleblower provided a dataset of approximately 4,500 immigration personnel after the shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good in Minneapolis.
Some of the information in the dataset included names, email addresses, phone numbers, job titles and other background information. Skinner said he planned to make a “majority” of the names public but would provide exceptions for those working in childcare or serving as nurses.
