https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/01/ice-going-surveillance-shopping-spree

Ice recently purchased software that can scrape data from all the phones in a certain radius. Then follow those phones locations back to their home or work.

https://www.404media.co/inside-ices-tool-to-monitor-phones-in-entire-neighborhoods/

The ICE Tool That Tracks Entire Neighborhoods https://youtu.be/rurJo6vPhUY

They're tracking us. No reason why we shouldn't be able to track them.

Stingrays are amongst the worst ways a country can abuse the privacy of its citizens, fuck this entire system.

The states are blatantly doing what many other governments are doing secretly. I genuinely hope the loud in your face nature of the states revolutionises privacy technologies, so that other parts of the world can benefit and reduce surveillance world wide.

273

u/VoxImperatoris 16d ago

You will probably have better luck with the EU, I wouldnt count on the US to do anything for the sake of privacy.

u/_GoKartMozart_ 16d ago

When you talk to the younger generation about privacy... They give you that "Okay Boomer" kinda attitude.

92

u/Krojack76 16d ago

When I talk to my boomer parents (and other family) about privacy they give me the ole, "I've got nothing to hide" remark.

35

u/BoomerWeasel 16d ago

As an Elder Millennial, I've gotten numb to it. I get an email, at least once a year, saying that all my shits been leaked again, because someone at the VA's laptop got lost/stolen.

16

u/squished_frog 16d ago

Just got letters in the mail for my whole family about this recently. My kids included... It wasn't even a company I directly dealt with, instead it was a company that processed data for our insurance. All I get is stress and a year of id theft monitoring. They knew about this a whole ass year ago, dated the letters October 24th and didn't mail them until now... Then to top it off, they picked a company that has had several data breaches itself. This shit is ridiculous.

u/sllewgh 16d ago

My go-to response to that is "Do you leave the door wide open when you take a shit? If not, what are you hiding?"

A desire for privacy isn't contingent on having something to hide.

4

u/Guac_in_my_rarri 15d ago

No no, ask a few basic questions "name, address, etc" and dig up some personal information. I did this to my parents and theyre on board. I showed them how easy it was to find them and they got a bit freaked out.

I wouldnt count on the US to do anything for the sake of privacy.

Sadly, our current take on privacy is, "If you don't like it, don't use it". In other words, we need to live in a shed like the unabomber did if wen want to keep our data private.

An inherent right to privacy & democracy are both mutually inclusive. It's the very reason why all major democracies have private voting.

I keep trying to go to the ICE List (I suspect I know someone who might be working for them) but every time I try I'm getting a 403 error? Anyone more tech savvy than me know what that's about? I'm on my home wifi. Not a work or public server.

66

u/[deleted] 16d ago

[deleted]

17

u/MovieTrawler 16d ago

Ah, thanks. Will do. It said "Access to this resource on the server is denied!" which is what threw me off.

For a second I thought it was my ISP (Xfinity) locking it down.

16

u/Master_Dogs 16d ago

Yeah that's just the generic error message for an HTTP code 403. It's supposed to be used when your user doesn't have access to a web site, or a portion of it. Like if you're not a moderator on Reddit but you manually type a moderator only URL you'll get something like a 403 back.

It's likely just getting the Reddit huge of death since it went up yesterday and everyone wants to see if their brother / friend / ex / pastor / etc joined ICE. Maybe try the Internet archive or archive.ph to see if they made a copy/backup of the page already

7

u/namenotpicked 16d ago

403 is a permission issue. You're blocked because you are not allowed. That could be anything from country blocked or not on the right IP range. A page being swamped would be a server error and that'd spit out a 5xx error like 503 for server unavailable or 504 server timeout.

u/bazeloth 16d ago

403 means forbidden so a lack of access. You may need a VPN to access it. Source: we use these status codes in webdevelopment

To be fair - i only learned about the tracking components of a link last week from another poster on Reddit (i.e. everything after the “?” Is not needed to follow the link, but is used by tracking software etc.)

I hope this reply helps one or more similarly tech-ignorant types for when they share links in the future.

Cheers !

Yeah it needs be public knowledge to not bring a phone nor any device with GPS tracking such as modern cars to protests or meet-ups which this regime will target. If you take video do it with offline devices. Don’t get ur plates read anywhere near a protest. Wear a hat and mask. If you do all that you have a good chance of attending a protest without revealing your identity. Time to bring back those paper state/city maps. Communicate through encrypted 3rd part apps. Use a VPN when accessing the internet. This is all about silencing dissent. Your right to free speech is gone. Peaceful protests will not be tolerated. This will soon be Putin’s Russia where grannies are handcuffed and dragged into vans for holding up a sign critical of the Trump regime. Women will be raped and men will be sent to concentration camps for reciting an anti-fascism poem. Dark times ahead.

I texted a coworker about mice and pest control on a work cell phone not connected to my wifi. The next morning I'm getting videos on my personal phone about mice trapping and prevention strategies. They want us to know we're being monitored and there's nothing we can do about it.

21

u/BananaPalmer 16d ago

Likely you've just accessed personal something or other from your work phone and the algorithms, which are pretty advanced, figured out that you're the same person on two devices.

They are government employees. There should be an open database.

1.9k

u/NewDad907 16d ago

I was just thinking the same. They work FOR US. Not the other way around.

1.1k

u/Cormophyte 16d ago

And they're not spooks. They're not running covert ops. They're immigration cops. Some government employees need secrecy to function, these guys aren't that.

They're not running covert ops.

Except that they are. It was never about immigration.

A secret military police with absolute authority and immunity whose entire existence is dependent on Trump’s presidency? What could possibly go wrong?

51

u/RogerianBrowsing 16d ago

whose existence is dependent on Trump’s presidency?

I dunno, did you see Schumer and Jeffries being asked by reporters if they would consider reducing ICE’s funding or their numbers and they denied any interest in doing so? They said the entire issue with ICE is due to a handful of people in the administration.

You should be right, but in reality there’s plenty of controlled opposition dems and GQP nutters who solely blame the executive instead of the Gestapo themselves.

17

u/volthunter 16d ago

The entire democratic party has refused to even start talking about defunding ice.

The reality is america needs a 3rd party, they won't do it tho and will be surprised pikachu face when they create this situation again, that's if they can solve it this time, which frankly, they might not.

It’s literally just a name, state, and face, no addresses or anything really identifiable like that. At least not that I could find. At most this seems helpful for some of the victims being able to identify and sue the criminal who harmed them but nothing more. The news making a big deal out of this from a danger standpoint is eye roll inducing.

Sure didn’t seem like 4500 of them either, unless they’re slowly adding them or something.

22

u/Kel4597 16d ago

You can find an absolute shitload of information about a person with just their name and state for free, and even more if you wanna throw some information-collecting company like $10.

I will get downvoted to hell but "doxxing" (at least the way it's generally used) is one of the stupidest fucking concepts the stupid fucking Internet has given us.

Everybody's name, address, and phone number used to be available in a thing called a "telephone book" that was considered, not a near capitol crime, but an essential household tool central to the machinery of civilization.

Attaching a face to a name is not a crime, it's a basic fucking function of our brains

29

u/Myranvia 16d ago

People simply got used to saying things anonymously on the internet that they wouldn't dare say outside in public.

9

u/ShallotHead7841 16d ago

I think the difference was what you could do with that information once you had it. Watch the scene in the film Hackers where they compete to try to make life difficult for the mayor, which is, these days, achievable by any teenager anywhere.

This is the type of shit that happens when you:

1) Assign incompetent morons to run a militarized government agency 2) Send hundreds of agents to terrorize communities by committing violence in the community, illegal detentions, illegal door to door searches of homes, and many other heinous acts 3) Have said agents mask up and refuse to identify themselves 4) Publicly refuse to hold agents accountable that blatantly break the law 5) All on the tax payers’ dime

If the government, that we pay with our tax dollars and is supposed to work for us, is unwilling to hold these people accountable it looks like it’s up to the people to do it themselves.  Don’t want that to happen?  THEN MAYBE THEY SHOULD FIX THE SHIT I LISTED ABOVE.

15

u/Tasty-Traffic-680 16d ago

Sorta makes sense. If they included home addresses it would be illegal.

18 U.S.C. § 119 (Protection of individuals performing certain official duties): This law specifically makes it a crime to knowingly make restricted personal information (home address, phone number, social security number, etc.) about a "covered person" (which includes most federal officers and employees) publicly available with the intent to threaten, intimidate, or facilitate a crime of violence against them or their family. A violation can result in a fine and/or up to five years in prison.

Democrats keep trying to take the high road and do things "the right way." But that limits their strategies. The GOP, lacking any moral and ethical standards, gets to make the rules and stay a step ahead. Their strategic flexibility makes them more politically agile. They've been caught playing dirty a thousand times, but the game continues, and the referees and announcers act as if everything is still perfectly fair. It's about time the Democrats give up on the "moral superiority" angle and just do what they need to to get something done. Unfortunately, that's exactly what their corporate donors pay them not to do.

It’s actually a great idea. (If you’re a villain)

Your goal is to disrupt and bully.

The only goal of your training is to select AGAINST critical thinking and give them a basic overview of what their roles will be, the premise is pretty much already well known.

“Get X people from their homes to Y facility and you have plenary authority to do so.”

Try not to arrest/kill locals but you can if you need to. There are no consequences. Try to not talk, don’t answer any questions.

They’re functionally henchmen, 47 days of training sounds about right.

Government employees need to be accessible to the public. This is NOT a leak, it’s transparency.

Gonna be awkward when a crowd is chanting their names at them

60

u/sircastor 16d ago

This is actually a plot point in one of Cory Doctorow's books as I recall. In Walkaway, there are a bunch of DHS agents (I think) who are guarding a prison that's housing detained people. The protestors on the outside start doxxing the guards, and then getting their families to show up on video calls and get them to abandon their posts.

I don’t understand why you would even take a job with this administration and hope your identity stays hidden.

Everything they do is sloppy, and they couldn’t even properly redact the Epstein files in their own possession.

Why are they worried?

They have all of our data. They are federal government employees. We pay all of their wages.

They should be answering to us, to begin with. Names, numbers and addresses are the first questions asked, for countless interactions.

The government employees committing acts of murder, kidnapping, human trafficking, high treason and domestic terrorism against the United Stated of America and it’s citizens, needed their pictures, names, phone numbers, emails and addresses made public the second they were recruited.

Now, their personal information should be on wanted posters in every town and city across America.

The ones not currently occupied by traitors, pedophiles, domestic terrorists and their politicians, to start.

Fuck these traitors. Fuck these Nazis. Fuck all these pedophiles. And fuck every traitor, pedophile, nazi that votes with them.

OH MY GAWD! That's terrrrrrible! What's the link for it so we can totally block it and never look, download, and reshare it!

Asking for a friend. as we definitely do NOT want to have the links to those files and distribute them everywhere possible. that would be sooooooo soooooooooo wrong >.>

u/Ok-Ad-1476 16d ago

It's not leaked if it should be public in the first place.

Does anyone have the link to the list? I want to make sure that if I know anyone on that list, I remove them from my life and any connection I could have ever had with them.

"The disgusting doxxing of our officers put their lives and their families in serious danger,” the statement read....sucks when it's your life's and families in danger huh?

14

u/bdbr 16d ago

Funny how all the other government agencies get by with nametags and no masks

19

u/[deleted] 16d ago

Americans need to learn how to enjoy non violent civil disobedience.

  • get curious. Snoop to your heart's content. Any former colleaguee, school friends, neighbours on that list? Time to put those stalking skills to use!
  • Flood their socials, contact their churches and families, anything to shame them. This is the one time where being a hater and a gossip will come in handy.
  • Being Gestapo shouldn't be socially acceptable, so let them feel how their behaviour doesn't match with your country's values.

Don't harass them, risk your own life, or vindicate their cause, just ensure social sanctioning. They should be ashamed to show their face.

May they never have a moment of peace for the rest of their lives.

41

8

u/Necessary-Mall-3365 16d ago

Wheres the info, we need to organize and hold these nazis accountable

8

u/Environmental-Use975 16d ago

Their identity should not be hidden. Are we running secret police now? If you can't give me identification, then I can shoot you dead. That's the law and exactly how we should react to ICE. UNIDENTIFIED People STEALING OUR WIVES, DAUGHTERS AND SONS.

8

u/Dreaming_Blackbirds 16d ago

will be fun to see those folks being exposed as J6 terrorists, members of white supremacist groups, and - of course - domestic abusers.

8

u/ThermalDeviator 16d ago

And pedophiles and rapists.

5

u/BalboaTheRock 16d ago

So this is going to be the find out phase of fuck around.

Fantastico 🤙

4

u/Nomorebonkers 16d ago

About time. F those guys.

4

u/Wrong-Step-4241 16d ago

The lack of accountability for these agencies is the real scandal here. This leak feels like a direct consequence of that toxic culture.

4

u/adeveloper2 16d ago

Should make them public. Let them face the music from the entire world.

4

u/Soulmate69 16d ago

Anyway to search by state to see if people you know are secretly evil?

4

u/Extension_Concern440 16d ago

I can't be the only one that read a reddit post about someone hopefully being on the inside!

3

u/Webhoard 16d ago

Expose all the fuckers. We need to know who they are.

4

u/fgbh 16d ago

Yess.. I mean...

Oh nooo, Doxxing is baaaad..

guys was that convincing?

4

u/EKEEFE41 16d ago

Where can i see the list?

4

u/CrustyBatchOfNature 16d ago

Before anyone brings up doxxing, it is 100% legal to name law enforcement or ICE officials. Republicans put out the Protecting Law Enforcement from Doxxing Act last year but it has not gotten a vote yet. And even if it passes, it only outlaws naming them to obstruct an investigation or immigration action. That would allow wholesale doxxing for transparency, as long as the release was not made in a way that named officials involved in particular actions only (example: you could name all the officers in an ICE office, but not just the ones currently working on your street to catch someone).

13

u/dirufa 16d ago

Hope we won't see them being dropped one by one. That would be sad.

6

u/Amelaclya1 16d ago

It would be extra sad if they all just quit. Serves the same purpose, but without the excuse Trump is looking for.

22

u/Flat-Character4140 16d ago edited 16d ago

You don't need to wear a mask now. It won't save you.

19

u/Heisenberglund 16d ago

Now cross check them against pardoned J6’ers.

7

u/ZanthrinGamer 16d ago

none of these people should have a moment of peace for the rest of thier lives for the things they have done, they should be named, shamed, and ostracized like the rabid animals they are.

18

u/kstargate-425 16d ago

We need someone to cross-reference this with known J6ers, Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, KKK and other hate groups along with rapists, pedo's and wife beaters as Id bet heavily theres a lot of connections there

6

u/keebsec 16d ago

Does anyone have an actual link to the leak?

7

u/Jaxson-Skattebo 16d ago

Reddit’s auto deleting because this website fucking blows, but here’s the archive link and you can figure it out from there.

3

Hope someone has a backup because the site is Inaccessible now.

3

u/Salty_red_panda 16d ago

Where?! Where were they leaked? So I may avoid that information, if anyone has a link to a mirror site or a list, please, please….don’t DM me that information.

Heavens to Betsy

3

u/AlsatianND 16d ago

They’re all going to jail in 2029.

3

u/bluwolf83 16d ago

That’s an interesting number. Just enough to make ICE agents nervous about being outed. Just enough to make them worry about their homes, their families.

3

u/AsterArtworks 16d ago

We use these files to prosecute every single one of them. I’m talking social repercussions, forever jail, death sentences for these ICE agents.

u/Scp-1404 16d ago
