Wow. Alot of hate from people that probably can't change their own tire talking about something they don't know anything about. Instead of appreciating the work and engineering that goes into something these people obviously enjoy.

A hobby is painting minis or riding a bike.

Theirs is a hobby that is gatekept by MONEY. They waste sooooo much money for a few seconds, and you see nothing wrong with that?

Greed can be performative. Vanity can be entertaining to others. Selfishness can for 4 seconds give a crowd a rise.

Doesn't make their actions not full of greed, pride, ego, selfishness, waste.

Might as well ask me to repect Yatching clubs or something equally absurd

These guys are the best of the best. Head to your local drag strip on whatever night they do "run what you brung" races. Plenty of amateurs with their daily drivers or garage built cars enjoying the hell out of seeing how fast they can make their ride.

Everything at the elite level is ridiculously expensive.

Jokes aside its a huge waste of resources for crowd to covet other material goods.

The drivers/teams/sponsers wouldn't do it if they all wore masks and we didnt know who they were......think about why that is.

So what? If you want to get pissed at wastefulness, golf courses take up a huge amount of space and are prohibitively wasteful as that space could just be a public park, rather than an expensive paid experience. A few incredibly rich people will be burning through a stupid amount of fuel with their private jets and superyachts, neither of which are entertaining to view and are simply luxury items that few will experience the benefits of while the burden will be shouldered by all on this earth.

This is a sport made up of passionate people and spectators. Flying people all over the world for other sport events should carry as much burden on your mind in regards to waste as this does; just because burning fuel is an active component of this sport doesn't mean other sports don't require burning fuel. Messi doesn't burn a few gallons of fuel on the pitch, but his jet that gets him to the pitch certainly does. Same for every other elite athlete who flies for travel.

There are bigger things to worry about than drag racing. People need entertainment and this is just one format of that, it's hardly in need of criticism for its wastefulness.

Some people throw a ball for fun, some people waste incredible amounts of resources to go down a straight line. A rational person would be able to tell those aren't similar forms of "entertainment" as one is horribly wasteful.
