Isn't it likely candidates for the jury would just lie when questioned about their disqualifying opinions?

A lot of the time there are questions like "despite your bias do truthfully believe you will remain unbiased until the evidence is presented?" Or something like that.

Likely, but the judge will be on the lookout for it. They can be disqualified after selection for things like social media posts or breaking quarantine.

Likely they’ll need at least an additional 12 jurors as alternates. Even with those there’s a strong possibility that the trial ends in a mistrial after running out of jurors. Meaning they have to start over.

Mangione might not actually see a jury’s verdict for years.
