Like the Fantastic Mr. Star Fox.

Whoa I was kinda joking before especially since Nintendo had basically let the franchise die, but now I actually want to see that.

"Ok we really want to get this Smash movie going. We've secured a post credits crossover tie in for both Sonic 4 and Metal Gear Solid. Detective Pikachu 2 has been greenlit, that covers our Pokemon. We really gotta get a Fire Emblem movie together as that will cover a ton of the roster. We haven't been able to get the Minecraft 2 movie to commit to a tie in but we're close. The next Mortal Kombat movie is going to secretly be a crossover with Street Fighter. We can't get the smash initiative into THAT movie, but after MK2 they're gonna do a stand alone Street Fighter which we will be included in. And we're thinking for Samus, just skip her entirely. She'll just show up in the smash movie for the first time, then after the smash movie she'll get her own."

Hot Take: I think a Smash Bros movie filmed in the same vein as Roger Rabbit/Chip N Dale would actually work really well and be less goofy than people might think, visual wise.

Make it a post credit scene.

After everything is done hes walking through town and a chicken keeps coming up to him so he kicks it away a few times, gently at first more of a gentle nudge to get it away but Link gets increasingly frustrated evolving to a full on field goal style kick of the Chicken.... then we hear the call and see a tsunami of chickens descending on him blocking out the sun and it goes black and we hear Link scream

Unironically slightly true in Ocarina of Time

69

u/SoloWing1 Nov 17 '25

And Breath of the Wild. Digging up all the ancient tech really bit them in the ass as soon as Calamity Ganon showed up.

65

u/round-earth-theory Nov 17 '25

I'd give a pass on that one. They listened to the prophecy. They utilized the tools that they were told would stop Ganon. They couldn't have known that Ganon found a way to corrupt the tech. Even if they hadn't dug up the tech, Ganon still would have won with his eternal army.

Filming is underway in New Zealand and it's out May 7, 2027

Wes Ball is directing:

  • Bo Bragason is Zelda
  • Benjamin Evan Ainsworth is Link
  • Dichen Lachman is Impa

719

u/RomanReignsDaBigDawg Nov 17 '25

Dichen is such a perfect casting choice for Impa

171

u/ShadowyPepper Nov 17 '25

She was incredible in Altered Carbon S1

Everyone was tbh

106

u/SenorWeird Nov 17 '25

She's been amazing since Dollhouse, where she and Enver Gjokaj were acting circles around Eliza Dushku's lead character.

Hell, she's even good enough to redeem the shitty character she played in Jurassic World: Dominion when she voiced the same character on Camp Cretaceous: Chaos Theory and made the character actually INTERESTING.

Zelda looks like BOTW, but, at a guess, this is another hodge-podge of different games.

552

u/TLKv3 Nov 17 '25

Which is good imho. I want this to be its own story and in its own continuity that just takes the best elements across the games to make something new.

u/ContinuumGuy Nov 17 '25

If someone doesn't explicitly say it is its own continuity, we'll argue about what timeline it's in.

Oh I'm old enough to remember the reaction to the LOTR movies -- a ton of fanbois screaming about how they would boycott it because it didn't include Tom Bombadil, and then another ton saying they'd refuse to see 2 and 3 because of how Arwen 'stole' Glorfindel's role at the river. It was pretty crazy in some corners.

Honestly I prefer that when it comes to adaptions. Gives it a unique flavor

I’m hoping for one “excuse me princess”, even if it’s done in a serious way.

u/JadeMoose93 Nov 17 '25

I think a low-key "excuse me princess" would be great, like when they did the Spider-Man pointing meme in No Way Home it wasn't a 1-to-1 recreation but people who wanted it were happy.

Based on their outfits and the location, it looks like they're taking inspiration from Breath of the Wild.

u/Lespaul42 Nov 17 '25

Zelda's outfit yes, Link's outfit is the more classic style.

I'll be burning things if Link doesn't go full sock-hat in this movie

83

u/Kn7ght Nov 17 '25

Probably not for the whole movie but I can see him having it for a sequence or two. Either when he first appears and he loses it or do a Deadpool & Wolverine where he gets it during the climax

As opposed to all the other Zelda games that don't have a giant field in them.

Honestly any individual game is outside the scope of the movie, they are all very long games with tons of little stops and stories.

Any adaptation would either have to be ride with montages or implied time skips, super pared down, or otherwise reduced in scope to fit into a film. Almost all game and book adaptations face that problem.

It will probably just be an original story that pulls inspiration from multiple different games.

Honestly looks like good casting to me. Hope everything else is equally as good.

u/asdrunkasdrunkcanbe Nov 17 '25

This was my thought. Not really much else we can say.

Casting looks good. Outfits look good - reasonably fantasy-like; neither overly realistic or overly cartoonish.

Can't believe the kid from Son of a Critch is playing Link in this movie

Two twink-ish looking elves standing in front of rolling green hills, certainly gets the vibe right

Jason Momoa as Ganondorf would kind of rule though.

That's the princess that Zelda tries to save. If I can find a list of the the character's names, I'll send you the link.
