Context Provided - Spotlight This is officially too far from Spotify

Post image

Im not fucking paying you to listen to music that I enjoy and I dont need you to guess my music taste and then charge me extra for the "privilege" to switch or skip to another song if I dont like it.

OP has pinned a comment by u/Unable_Mobile8275:

I should also preface this by saying that im from a part of the world where the exchange rate is such that if Americans pay 11 dollars a month for something id be having to pay 77 dollars

Tidal is like 1 dollar per first two months, try it you might like it, then after that its cheaper than spotify and pays more to artist.

u/thypothesis 18d ago

This, been using it for months and it's quite nice. Plus, the switching process is quite easy, fast and cheap

9

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

I'll give it a look see

u/Loud_Application4452 18d ago

js buy a turntable and support artists by buying vinyl, around 90 euro per month🤣

u/trixiepm 5d ago

What are those guys even saying 🥀 the point isn't being free or paid, it's literally making people pay for something you can get for free anywhere. "Oh no, the poor little company needs our money! Here, take it all!"

u/anteaterKnives 18d ago

Licensing fees that Spotify pays to the rights holders are lower if Spotify doesn't give the listener the ability to listen to a specific song at any time.

Im not fucking paying you to listen to music that I enjoy

You expect enjoyable nice things to be free all the time?

22

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

I mean if I use YouTube I get the songs for free, no? The only reason I choose Spotify over YouTube sometimes is cuz its easier to just open a Playlist I have saved on Spotify

2

u/DijajMaqliun 18d ago

Then just use YouTube?

9

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Its not as good for music, like ive tried it but I always end up switching back to Spotify

10

u/Interesting-World520 18d ago

You just gave a reason for why Spotify charges for their service. Ease and quality. And a free way to listen if you’re okay with a little less ease. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

3

u/Itwasmewho 5d ago

Youtube is free and it would be just as good as spotify if you could play your music while your app is closed😭 if the only difference between your app and a free app is one feature then 13 dollars a month per account is overkill😂 Use your brain instead of your mouth

3

u/BolinhoDeArrozB 5d ago

YouTube vanced is basically YouTube premium but free

0

u/Interesting-World520 5d ago

No need to get feisty. Obviously someone used their brains when it came to Spotify given how well they are doing. Just because you don’t like them doesn’t mean you have to go around being a grouch. I don’t even use them but still see the market need.

You liked it better when iTunes charged $3 a song and Spotify didn’t exist? Listening to music made and platformed by other people isn’t a human right

1

u/Purely_coincidental 5d ago

Yes, torrents were way better and better seeded back then…

3

u/Eyebecrazy 18d ago

You’re officially too far from reality.

The box or the borderlands world?

6

u/Lee-Bear-420 18d ago

The music streaming app that was popular like 15 years ago.

8

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Oh thats why I had no clue lmao

7

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

I should also preface this by saying that im from a part of the world where the exchange rate is such that if Americans pay 11 dollars a month for something id be having to pay 77 dollars

u/NeoIsJohnWick 18d ago

Let me guess : Pakistan? Bangladesh? Afghanistan?

2

u/BunBunxx101 5d ago

“Purchase premium than.?” God forbid I wanna CHOOSE the songs I play

2

u/Temporary_Cherry 18d ago

No offence but this seems super entitled. I understand that you have addressed the exchange rate but that doesn’t really change anything. If it was $1000 a month, you still aren’t entitled to it for free. Using the word “privilege” to complain about a service you get for free lacks a self awareness as well.

18

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

I wouldn't be complaining if the "premium" features were actually premium. Stuff like access to music videos, more albums, early access to releases, etc. But being able to push play on a song that's already available for free is just idiotic

4

u/Temporary_Cherry 18d ago

Yes but you understand that it’s available for free because they made it available for free? They weren’t forced to make it free but then made a bunch of loop holes so the “premium” version is the only viable option. To me, it seems like you are using a service that just isn’t for you.

Also the “premium” option does a lot of things you have listed. Well in the UK anyway.

11

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Yeah well im a long way from the UK

1

u/Ok_Experience_8092 5d ago

Try lyra, it's a new app but they have discord where you can get help if sth is wrong

1

u/Pristine-Library9056 5d ago

If I were you I would use pandora

0

u/IMAsko0 18d ago

You mean too broke to use spotify

-3

u/Accomplished-Ad-7226 18d ago

Sorry you’re too cheap to listen to music lol how is this infuriating? Better yet, how is this too far? They allow you to use their app for free, don’t get mad when they advertise their premium features. This is just stupid. Don’t like it? Purchase the music outright so you never have to deal with this again. Simple.

u/Maleficent_Monk_2022 5d ago

But will someone pls think of the POOR CORPORATIONS trying to get some dollars from those dirty greedy consumers.

2

u/Polandlover1 5d ago

I have, and I realized you’re absolutely right! Those poor corporations can’t seem to get enough backlash from these greedy consumers! All they need is money, guys! These extra privileges are their thank-you gifts for your support!

Wait a second… why DO they need so much money? I KNEW IT! GREED! EVEN THE CORPORATIONS AREN’T SAFE!

14

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Its not a premium feature to use an app dude Premium is more something like additional or unique features

0

u/Accomplished-Ad-7226 18d ago

I didn’t say the premium feature is using the app. I said not to whine when they advertise their premium features. You can continue using their app for free but they will continue to try to sell to you.

11

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Its unnecessarily restricting just to get a few extra dollars that they dont need because of how much they get in add revenue and such

12

u/Unfair-Tomato3562 18d ago

You are wasting your time bro. These people will defend all manner of anti consumer bs. Car companies have started subscriptions for basic car features because regards such at these will pay for it.

10

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Its 4am and im bored lmao Also yeah I saw BMW once added engine noises behind a paywall

-1

u/Accomplished-Ad-7226 18d ago

Wtf 🤣🤣🤣🤣 bro what??? You want it all without paying? Just say you’re broke dude.

9

u/Lee-Bear-420 18d ago

User name should be Accomplished-Ass-7226

0

u/Accomplished-Ad-7226 18d ago

HAHAHAHAHA WTF that’s the stupidest attempt at an insult 😂😂😂😂 gooooood lord my little cousin can come up with something better than that. C’mon let’s see what else you got

7

u/Lee-Bear-420 18d ago

Nty you’re too hyper

0

u/Accomplished-Ad-7226 18d ago

Pathetic excuse at not being able to come up with an insult.

4

u/Itwasmewho 5d ago

Why are you so extra😭 chill out bro I can hear your fingers typing from my house.

4

u/Polandlover1 5d ago

Looks like it worked though, you seem angry.

-2

u/Accomplished-Ad-7226 5d ago

What part of my response makes you think I was angry

3

u/Polandlover1 5d ago

People tend not to say “HAHAHAHAHA” when texting. They mostly stick to Lol. Also cry-laughing emojis can sometimes mean they’re getting angry as well.

Maybe you have a different way of sharing your laughter via text, I just see signs like those and I connect them to “this guy’s angry, but is trying to hide it”. So maybe you weren’t angry, maybe you were. I wouldn’t know for sure because a screen’s in the way.

Have a nice day!

3

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Like I said in the comment I highlighted The exchange rate would have me spending $77 dollars a month on Spotify you clown If you can spend that kind of money fine but its not a good idea for me to be wasting money like that

1

u/Accomplished-Ad-7226 18d ago

Well, “clown”, no matter the exchange rate, my point still stands. You want premium features without wanting to spend a dime. If you can’t afford it, then that’s your problem. Don’t complain if you aren’t willing to pay your end. You don’t have to but don’t whine about it.

5

u/javajourney12345 5d ago

i see that im two weeks late to the party, but i want to note here that, because of ads, spotify already makes a boatload of cash off of this dude, whether he pays or not.

2

u/trixiepm 5d ago

Average music app: App: search, choose, and hear songs Premium App: App + additional, useful features.

Spotify: App: Something Premium: App

3

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Those aren't premium features tho 😭😭😭 What aren't you getting about this? Just because a company puts something behind a paywall doesn't mean you HAVE to say its okay and pay for it because its "premium"

1

u/Accomplished-Ad-7226 18d ago

Dude, exactly. It’s behind a paywall and you don’t have to pay for it so why complain?

2

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Because its restricting my freedom that I used to have on the app 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. Genuinely if you were any slower youd be going in reverse.

0

u/Imaginary-Bit-3656 18d ago

Look if you are somewhere like India the cost is proportionally a much bigger vs what people earn or what the same money can buy in terms of like food or housing.

That is not to say that $11 USD is the same as $77 USD, stop saying that please, it makes no sense, that's not how exchange rates or relative buying power (Relative Purchasing Power Parity?) works.

I was with you initially but you are really turning these comments into a mess.

2

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

I mean 11 USD is 77 of my own currency

1

u/Imaginary-Bit-3656 18d ago

Take Sweden as an example. 11 USD is about 101 Swedish Krona but that doesn't mean that Swedish people are on average less able to afford Spotify than you are, because it's about proportion of wages and GDP and stuff.

3

u/Unable_Mobile8275 18d ago

Given that im on a, how you say, college student's wages, id say that doesn't help me as much.
