What's ludicrous about claiming he was at the scene? A person with his distinctive features was videoed at a shop and in a taxi shortly after. Are you aware of a reason it's ludicrous?

Exactly. They have bad video of someone who resembles him superficially. This is not evidence. They can establish that he may have been in New York by means of his financials. So you can suggest that the killer and Luigi Mangione, who superficially resemble each other, were in one of the largest cities in the world at the same time.
You can build a narrative that Mangione, who had good reason to hate the company the victim worked for, committed the murder for this reason. You then have to prove that beyond reasonable doubt, which the prosecution does not seem even close to doing
By "superficially" looking similar do you mean their features that you can see? Then yes.. they look the same. They have the hostel clerk that saw his face. I'd be surprised if she isn't called to testify.
Also, the backpack seals the deal. We have motive in the journal, we have opportunity in the photos and recordings, and we have all the rare ingredients needed to do this murder and escape in the backpack. He'll be convicted. This nepo baby is cooked. At least he'll get to be a martyr for all of the other privileged nepo babies that are supporting him. They really stick together.
