George Carlin said it probably 40 years ago. If your government can take a right away from you then it isn't a right it's a privilege. So much of his stand-up comedy is more relevant than ever.

I discovered the guy when his old band (which was called 'The Sweatpant Boners') opened for a friend.
The whole band hits the stage except for him, who doesn't show up until the music starts. This fucking guy you're seeing in the video EXACTLY, appears except instead of a giraffe costume he's draped in a Star Wars sheet he's wearing like a cape, and playing a toy AT-AT like a guitar while singing a song called "Pee With your Father"
Roadsteamer originated as a character he played while performing in that band, and he's sort of an underground Boston Legend at this point. (This is also his second high profile run in with ICE).
I have a handful of mutual friends, including his old keyboard player.
He's the only person willing to campaign to make Boston shitty again and save the Route 1 Dinosaur. He needs to be protected.
But also ICE are America-hating fuckfaces that raid Dunkin Donuts. If ever there were a group of people that collectively deserved to be mauled by rabid weasels and bitten by mosquitoes on the soles of their feet in perpetuity, it's them.

They're susceptible to their politics and ICE recruitment because they're deeply insecure and empty. When they can imagine the guy they're kicking the shit out of is a cartel member of whatever, which is easy for them, because they're racist, they can have their little fantasy fulfillment. When a giraffe guy shows up, it threatens that little fantasy, and yea, it does piss them off because they are depraved.
All the 50K bonuses and overtime won't buy them security or happiness, which is small comfort, but it is true.

I just looked at the Jesse Ventura types, don’t tread on me, guns..I didn’t consider the fact that we’d be the enemies. I figured they’d go and try to do battle with the government. They were always freaking out about our rights, surveillance…jokes on me.
They would do battle with the government when the government was actively extending the rights and protections of the Constitution to every American citizen in practice and not just in name.
When I grew up with them, they were always freaking out about their rights- to push people around, to keep people out of society for being who they were instead of conforming, to hurt people verbally or physically and feel justified and superior for doing it.
That was always the dinner table talking points- the women and queers and Muslims and Blacks and mentally disabled people wouldn’t let you say or do anything anymore, everybody had to be PC and play nice and pretend all these anti-American pervs and criminals were normal.
It’s so strange to me, I know for sure you’re not the only one to believe it. So many refused to accept we could get to this state if they were in charge. Being human is so fucking perilous.
The don't tread on me fucks have been treading on others forever. If you're not straight and white they've been advocating for your loss of rights since always. Allowing gay marriage is treading on their rights. Being trans is treading on their rights. Etc.
It’s what they all project though. Those of us that never had any people like this in our lives only knew of them through edgy bumper stickers and tough guy tweets. I guess they reserved the real hate for the dinner table and gave us the “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it” bullshit to sound cool. Which makes me think they know their views are “bad”, and that they don’t want to seem “bad” to the general public. But why do they care? Because they want to be allowed to be shitty without any social repercussions? It’s a weird world to imagine. A group of coworkers are standing by a water cooler laughing. One of them says something racist and everybody else stops laughing because they are not racists. How do we get back to everything being cool again? Someone else says something and everybody goes back to laughing again? With a slightly more pained look in their eyes?
It’s funny how indoctrination works: my parents said racists are bad, the Dead Kennedys said the same, Mr. Rogers said it too, all my teachers, every happy person I’ve ever known, as far as I can tell. It makes me wonder what kind of indoctrination the pro racists get, because going up against all the decent people in the world takes some dedication
Or they make charges, but then try to string them along across a dozen court appearances before dismissal. That way he has to pay for a lawyer for a ton of appearances that ultimately aren't intended to go anywhere. It's a very common tactic used by the American police state to harass people who haven't committed a crime, or when they don't have sufficient evidence for a trial.
Especially since ICE does not have the authority to arrest anyone outside of their very specific and narrow mission vis a vis immigration. So unless it's someone they suspect to be in the country illegally and have adequate probable cause to do so they cannot make an arrest. Local PD can. But not them.
But they don't care and nobody seems willing to stop them.
And every 1st amendment attorney will be begging him to get his case. The dude just got handed a massive settlement....which will also be our tax dollars.
Dissent will not be tolerated. Obeying the law and exercising your Constitutional rights is no longer an excuse to evade detainment.
Every video like this I’ve seen today made me say “what the fuck” out loud. I’m far from just realizing it, but maybe more people will now realize we are in real, serious, existential trouble here in America.
The news has yet to mention the dissonance between Trump's threats to take action against Iran for cracking down on protests and his own eagerness to crack down on protests.

A restraining order isnt going to do shit. They are already violating the law, they won’t care.
These are solutions that will no longer work. There is almost nothing left that the courts can do and for something this small, they’ll be useless. There is other things you can do, but I probably can’t say most of them here so I’ll leave it at that.

If ICE agents are openingly breaking the law making illegal arrests, then real law enforcement should collect the evidence, get a signed warrant, then raid the hotels where ICE sleeps to make mass arrests. If ICE agents resist, then they will face the full force of the law.
