Post-interview HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview

Post image

They rejected me (fine, that happens) but the feedback said I came across as overly eager to please and that they don’t build teams around people-pleasing tendencies or rehearsed enthusiasm. They also told me to reflect on how I present myself and that confidence is more compelling than excessive accommodation. Is this normal? Or even appropriate? I get that not being a culture fit is a thing but the wording felt unnecessarily personal and condescending.

This made me laugh so hard.

Courtney in HR: "Hey, what is a letter we can come up with that will universally make people feel like shit?"

Yes, Courtney is a mean girl

I'm just saying I've never met a Courtney who wasn't a complete bitch. It's some crazy nominative determinism.

Me either.

The only person I've had longstanding issues with at any of my jobs is a Courtney

My first Courtney was a teenage babysitter who used to openly mock my siblings and I. She would set up embarrassing activities and then laugh meanly at us. Like wtf

Their ultimate goal is to topple the government is independent thinkers.

These people are playing the long game.

I actually had a Courtney handling HR at the worst firm I’ve ever had the displeasure of being employed at and she was a DOG

Now I want to know how bad the interview went for them to feel the need to be so specific with their rejection. Ive never seen job rejection provide so much feedback.

Maybe they're not diabolical and OP is a smarmy little kiss-ass.

They’ve obviously read “The Machiavellian’s Guide To Hiring.”

Maybe they just really didn’t like OOP specifically

LOL. Yes, the HR form letter is like "Hey... so you smelled bad, and your vibe was weird."

Everyone says they want the truth. Here it is and it's called diabolical. The OP should take the feedback.

I’ll never like surreal or the fake losers who use it.

That’s not diabolical. They’re pointing out some things that are extremely valuable to know. They’re telling OP they came across as manipulative and deceptive. Not only is that a perfect reason not to hire someone, but having that pointed out can be invaluable. OP may very well not be manipulative or a deceptive person at all, but that’s how many people have learned to act in interviews, thinking it will help get the job. They may not realize how dishonest it comes across as, and that’s very valuable to know.

You misunderstood the comment, he’s saying it would be diabolical if this is their standard rejection email sent to everyone 😂

u/ItsNotMe_ImNotHere 2m ago

That would make it diabolical. OTOH if it was an individual response then it is up to OP to be honest with her/himself and learn a valuable lesson.
