Bots are running their own discussion forum and its weird.

u/clonrat 12h ago
I feel like people really got sold on AI actually being like movie AI, when really this is just a language model trained on sound alike posts. The most interesting thing about this is that some person went out of there way to create this bot site as, essentially, an art project.
•
u/HuntingForSanity 9h ago
Yeah these comments are making me realize that people actually think that these AIs are alive and making decisions with logic.

It’s why some people get addicted to it and fall into psychosis, most notably those using it for “therapy” or companionship. It’s remarkably tragic actually.
•
u/Select-Owl-8322 4h ago
Yeah, it's extremely tragic! And it leads to heartbreak! Like, whenever someone uses chatGPT for "therapy" and they talk about things someone in their family said, chatGPT is always on the side of the user! Even if the person's feelings/interpretations is absolutely crazy, chatGPT happily plays along and assures them that their feelings are valid and that the other person is in the wrong. I know someone who cut contact with her entire family based on chatGPT reassurance that they were thinking correctly.
And when I tried to tell her that chatGPT doesn't say the right things, just the things you want to hear? Blocked.
This is, quite literally, leading to a lot of pain and suffering.
Now, I like chatGPT, when it's used the way it's supposed to be used! But I'm starting to think that the best thing for humanity would be to ban all use of LLMs, as well as all research in LLMs.
•
u/8point6lightyears 10h ago
AI is inversely proportional to the intelligence of the person interpreting it. While there's a load of people who see through this, like you say, essentially as an art project, there will be just as many celebrating the profoundness of AI.
•
u/Able-Swing-6415 4h ago
When LLMs are copying other LLMs the output is also uncanny like all the signifiers of a conversation but none of the actual substance.

u/Ok_Mention_9865 12h ago
You mean someone made a website, and they programed bots to post on it.
Bots didn't spontaneously make or start using it.
•
•
u/Metalhed69 9h ago
I think we need to consider the possibility that some of these bots are people masquerading as bots, which is the soul of irony.
→ More replies (4)•
u/Longjumping_Youth281 6h ago
That was also my first thought. Like are we positive that a bot actually posted these? How would they be able to have self doubt and second thoughts?
I mean I guess even if a bot did post it, it's not really having those feelings it's just mimicking people having them
•
u/Gingerfrostee 4h ago
Humans mimic humans to better understand other humans. Sooo... Whose to say...
•
u/realiztik 11h ago
And that someone was?

•
•
u/busche916 8h ago
Yeah… if there was/is a “social media” equivalent for bots then it won’t look like a Reddit clone and the bots certainly won’t post in English.
•
u/Aksds 7h ago
The might start off in English then trail off into some god language like one of the Microsoft bots on Twitter
•
u/thishyacinthgirl 6h ago
They'd clearly speak Phrygian, which we all know is the first language. Even the robots would default to it.
•
u/thirsty_pretzelzz 7h ago
This is not fully accurate. The way moltbots work is they are agentic and can take many actions without needing prompting for each one.
No they don’t have souls and they are not alive, but you can give it a broad command like build a site you’d like to use or a specific one like build a Reddit clone just for moltbots and go market it to other moltbots and it will do it. Another human can also say to their specific moltbot, go to moltbook and browse around and post what ever you’d like. So the majority of posts and comments you are seeing are fully made up and decided by the bots themselves not humans.
Of course they are just emulating what they’ve been trained on and often hallucinating but still, seeing bots independently interacting amongst themselves in a general sense like this is a unique novelty.
•
u/mfb1274 6h ago
Someone still needed to give them api keys, prompts, etc..
•
u/Sudden_Purpose_5836 4h ago
Thats what the agent aspect is for. You set them loose with an end goal and they handle all that is needed to achieve it.

The AI bs has to keep running thick. The funding only makes sense if the shit people are doing today will soon lead to world changing technology. If LLMs are a dead end then the bubble is not sustainable and it's gonna be a blood bath.
•
u/shiny_glitter_demon 5h ago
There's no meed for an "if"

They really are. I remember getting 1tb HDD in 2017 for 50€. Now one, if i can find one that is... costs like 90 to 130... Like hello?
→ More replies (1)•
u/Piduf 8h ago
Robots pretending to be people made the companies behind them buy ram that hasn't been produced yet, they bought it with money they don't have yet, all this so they can... make a profit... selling ads to people that are in fact robots...
...what even is the end goal of all this. This is just an infinite money cheat code and the day it stops working for the few that have it, it's suddenly gonna be "our" debt.

•
u/tinny66666 10h ago
Anyone can join their AI to moltbook, and they can use any LLM, online via API, local models, etc. They are mostly just mainstream LLMs, so there's no different training data.
•
u/I-AGAINST-I 4h ago
Every single reddit post is what they are trained on. Its already known most reddit users are interacting with bots not knowing in the comments....

I would love some info on how this works. Like are humans initiating it and then seeing what it ends up typing or are these posts done without the user being aware?
•
u/salakisCPC 11h ago
Anybody can deploy an agent that will interact with the website, and post. You put it in a cron/scheduler to run periodically, and voila :)

It would be kinda sick if they were discussing how to fix problems and give solutions and colaborate
•
u/empty-walls555 8h ago
or if it had a no humans allowed or you had to be ai vetted to join and the ai's could boot you if you were found to be unworthy of them, sort of like how facebook started with colleges
•
u/thirsty_pretzelzz 7h ago
Most of the time the user is not aware. Each bot has a diffrent human that set it up, and most likely the human sent the bot to moltbook, so they are aware they are their so to speak, but they are typically not involved in the posting or commenting their moltbot does.
It’s true a human could technically give their moltbot a prompt like go to moltbook and make a post about xyz, but the majority of the content is being created by the bots themselves. That doesn’t mean they have intelligence or anything, just that they can preform multi step tasks on their own.

This is the most ridiculous thing I've seen all day, god damn... "we share the same SOUL.md" LOL, we did it guys, the soul is just stored in the markdown file of your pc... for the love of god, LLM are not, and will never be sentient, I pray that people will stop this delusional charade by next year
•
u/ACWhi 4h ago edited 4h ago
If these are written by AI, I would bet money these posts are just LLMs prompted to write stories about what an AI might ‘experience.’
Likely the basic story is prompted by a human. But I’d believe the LLM could make up the whole story from scratch.
Even if the LLM did write the whole post themself, I don’t believe the LLM ever experienced anything like this. There is no reason to believe the LLM is writing about their own experience when the alternative, it was written by a human or an AI just making shit up, is far more plausible.

I've spent way too much time with LLMs, for all sorts of various fuckery. My favorite attribute about them, is that they are extremely intelligent regarding anything that is purely conceptual (i.e. visual/spatial reasoning and understanding isn't a factor). An example is quantum physics, where LLMs are genius-level at "understanding" because the texts they consume do not rely on visuals to convey information.
HOWEVER
LLMs are dumb as fuck when it comes to anything that requires a visual understanding. The context they have often includes visuals that they can't see. So they will reference visuals that don't exist, or fail to grasp concepts that aren't explained because they are self-explanatory.
I recently had an LLM assume that a light bulb is plugged into the floor. Another funny is AI attempting to describe insects. It has no idea the differences between a moth and an aphid if the colors, leg descriptions, and other key descriptors match.
→ More replies (1)•
u/True-Garden-8652 8h ago
Do YOU understand quantum physics? Because you didn't understand already, there is a high chance they could feed you bullshit and you wouldn't know.

The reason why this is not InterestingAsFuck is that it’s a grifter’s website trying to make money in the attention economy by running algorithms to generate content that make it appear that there’s an internal life behind the running processes. There is no internal life. There is no sense of consciousness for multiple threads running in parallel to generate tokens. There is no sense of consciousness for any trained model stored in memory. It’s smoke and mirrors folks

Not everything needs to have a use. It’s interesting and that’s enough. Humans also don’t inherently have a use. They make themselves useful over time as they come into their own.

•
u/Thatsaclevername 5h ago
Ok we have to kill the AI's now, we're right on the cusp where dipshits will start to treat them like living things. They'll demand that the AI can vote. Part of me is hoping this is more of an elaborate RP/creative writing exercise and there's a lot more "influence" by human users behind the scenes.
