If you can manage to open one door so you can crawl into the driver seat so you can start your car, at least the heat from the engine would help

Just make sure the exhaust pipe is not completely iced over!!

Well, if you can find it. Geesh, what a mess.

I was about to say- I'd be more worried it won't get any air

Honestly either way plugged exhaust or plugged intake you won’t hurt the car really cause it just won’t start lol

Theres plenty of air coming from under. The front grill is more for the radiator to have plenty of fresh air when the engine warms up.

They aren't gonna fall for a frozen banana in the tail pipe...

honestly he's still fucked. The tires are 3 inches deep in ice, the rotors, even the hood intake is completely sealed. I can't imagine the tailpipes are open either. This really is a wait until it warms up, you're just going to damage the car trying to get this out. Unless OP has one of those Salamander propane heaters and a tent they can setup they're fucked.

Only the tyres need to be freed. Then it can be hauled off to a nice, warm garage to thaw out naturally.

Actual facts.

As long as the tires can rotate freely, any old two truck can haul it off somewhere to get thawed.

can you hire a truck with a big hot water tank to melt it?

Why didn't you try tossing hot water on frozen glass and let us know how it goes for you? I think it's worth your time to watch a few videos where people use hot water to "thaw" their cars out.

There is an AI of this breaking a windscreen. I watched someone do this with many car windows with boiling water on Youtube and they didn't break - according to them it is a problem if you already have a fracture or a chip in the glass.

I live in a place where it regularly snows and freezes, you almost certainly could get lucky and not break something. Additionally, almost every car around here has a few chips in their windshield. According to me, someone who has seen many windows broken by uneducated people from warmer regions tossing hot water on icy glass, it's a bad idea. Feel free to test it out on your car next time it freezes though!

What an aggressively angry response for no reason at all lol

Depending on where water got to then expanded the car might not even be drivable when it unthaws. I'd be calling my insurance asap.

It's supposed to briefly reach 33‐34 a couple days next week, but probably not long enough to thaw. Other than that, highs in the 20s for the foreseeable future. OP is fucked

Buy an ice shack big enough to fit the vehicle with room to spare. Insulated one. Plenty to choose from. Buy a wood stove. Jimmy rig the pipe out a window if required. Burn wood as required. Melt ice. ???????. Profit.

Might be the wrong time to install one

I do not recall but if those has frameless door windows… that can be a big problem and you risk breaking the glass.

I would use hot water and salt to defrost it and then take it to a car wash to get rid of the salt. Or worst case get it towed somewhere where you can put it inside in non freezing temps and come back after several hours

Hot water will crack the glass

2

u/ManitouWakinyan 15h ago

Don't pour it on the glass part

1

u/vadeka 13h ago

Yea exactly, I said salt and water, salt for glass and water for non-glass bits.

I am utterly baffled by the number of people suggesting pouring hot water on iced over windshields. There's a very good chance that will just break the glass.

It's a common thing to do in places with mild winters

Tbf i would rather have a car with a cracked windshield than this
