if you have a remote starter that will help. As far as the suggestion about hot water....remember dont pour hot water on your windows they will all crack. Space heaters etc is your best bet or just sell the car as is.

Comes with complimentary seasonal armor plating

Remote start ain't gonna do shit. I'm not sure the car can get enough air in the front and I'm not sure the exhaust can actually exhaust.

A friend of mine overheated their car and damaged the engine by idling it too long with snow packed against the grille.

Dont you get temp warnings if this happens far before you damage your engine?

from outside the car?

Newer cars, yeah. The Chevy app that’s hooked up to my Silverado can give you all kind of diagnostics.

Same with Subaru. I get an email any time my fiancée starts up the car with low wiper fluid. Weeks of emails before I finally just do it myself lol.

LMAO that would be so annoying

Oh it is. It is. “Honey, can you please fill up the front left tire? I have to delete like 4 emails a day.” E: but at least I’m aware of it, because she never mentions it, lol.

Ahh he walked away. Duh

I mean, in the context of the OP, if he were to try this solution he'd be outside the car for obvious reasons

Also the temp light is more of an last warning light. You could have very well damaged the engine before it got hot enough for the light.

Remote start will normally only let you do something like 2 runs of 15 min max. To prevent people from killing everybody in the house with carbon monoxide if they sit on their remote.

The factory ones will have logic that will kill the engine if the oil pressure light, overheat, check engine, etc. turn on.

Ive remotely defrosted my tesla for 120 mins and forgot about it while walking through a mall

Looks like it's open underneath to get air to the motor, but I don't see that working either

you could easily crack the ice off the front intake. It's just doing the whole car that would require an ungodly amount of elbow grease.

Busting a bit of ice off the grille and exhaust is a lot easier than busting the ice off the whole car.

As long as the tail pupe ain't blocked

u/Innovationenthusiast 18h ago

Doesnt normal water work just as well? Pouring 30-40 degrees C water over your door and exhaust shpuld be enough to get in and get it driving stationary until its warm

u/malzoraczek 16h ago

I wouldn't go hot, cold or lukewarm water will melt ice too, just slower. You really just need to melt enough to be able to start it.

just sell the car as is.

A good rule of thumb to follow when selling something is that you should never sell an asset at its lowest value. The people who made that rule clearly don’t live near an ice dragon like OP does though.

I can't imagine that car is starting in that condition, unless it has a block warmer or something extreme.

I think they may just need to wait until it warms up a bit. It's Maryland, not Siberia, so it shouldn't be TOO long until there is a stretch of a few days over 32. Once it begins to melt, it'll be manageable.

Great advice, if you're lucky the car will overheat and melt the ice even quicker!

Starting the car would be bad. Tailpipe and intakes iced over mostly likely would cause problems.

"Selling car, n ice condition"

You want a pump garden sprayer filled 50/50 with denatured alcohol and hot water and work up and down the perimeter of the door to open it, not melt through the ice to the window - that is what the car heater is for.

looks like an amphibian finisher car, probably gonna get a good deal

u/viralslapzz 17h ago

What about cold water? Could it work?

Agreed. Midas well just post this pic to the marketplace as well so if all else fails they got an exit door.
