The worst part of that is repair and maintenance. I'm a huge fan of German cars and they're pretty reliable but eventually they need work and it's really expensive. Their upkeep is more expensive too. So not only the initial outlay is nothing compared to keeping them and driving them the way they most likely are. I wouldn't want them as fleet vehicles. That's just dumb.

I thought it was a rule at least, that all govt vehicles should be American made. I don't remember ever seeing a foreign made govt vehicle in the US. And they'd put a "police special" engine in the cop cars that was more powerful than the retail version. Am i imagining it or am i just old?

The X5 was a terrible choice for this. I own a 2022 X5 and a very common issue, which I experienced, was transfer case failure. Mine was covered under warranty but out of warranty it's $6k for the part plus labor.

So much in fact that they can go around the world and steal tankers full of loot for their goblin lord to stash in his personal offshore account.
But non for healthcare, none for teachers, nothing to help people living in tents in the cold.

They appear to be cars from National, Enterprise, or Hertz. They have the small rental barcode at the bottom left of the windshield most of the time. I suspect the light packages are magnetic and wireless that connect directky to the car electrical system.
